Well, I broke down and used a ruler.

I watched some videos on the "jelly roll race" quilts people were making and decided I could make one myself.

I did not buy a jelly roll. I cut 4 inch strips, cut them into odd lenghts and pieced the thing just like the Jelly race quilts.

All recycled fabrics - per usual. There is some Amy Butler in there because I buy scrap bags from the quilt shop sometimes. I did not do FMQ because it had been awhile sense I did channel quilting.

Im going to do it again. but will make 6 inch strips and make some strips with 2 strips 3 inches each to add some really odd strip sets in them. I also might add color blocks and boarders. ?? This is the first quilt Ive pieced in a long time.

Oh, I also made another one of my dots style quilts -- its huge -- I stuffed as many FMQ patterns as I could think of into it --- I guess that might have made me feel like I needed a break from FMQ. It is all S.S. raw edge applique.

This quilt is crazy huge -- but I really like its impact. I can immagine it a bedroom -- not mine b/c my house is so small i cant even unfold the whole thing in my house .. but, it is just a very cool quilt. I quilted it on the Grand Quilter. I used 40wt. thread on top and the 50 wt aurfill in the bobbin.

I had to buy some cotton batting because i havent been able to find old blankets for a bit -- IDK maybe they dont put them out in the summer? And they had run out of the recycled batting. dream green.

I have to admit - I like the pucker look that the very dense quilting does when the quilt is dried when it has new cotton that shrinks a bit.

The pic of the dots quilt was taken b-4 it went through the wash.

Oh, machine bound also - front and back.

LOVE the colors on both quilts!

Glad the ruler experience wasn't too painful the quilt looks fantastic!

Have you tried ebay for blankets and fabric? I have gotten so much from ebay! When I was looking for wool I found lots and lots of wool blankets. I live in NC, wool is not a popular fabric here for Goodwill sweaters or blankets, so thank goodness for ebay!

PortlandMaine - I love all of your quilts. These two examples are stunning!

I'm one of those people who was always afraid to color outside of the lines when I was a kid - and your work truly inspires me.

Your quits are wonderful!

So you use blankets for backing? Please tell me more! This sounds like such a good idea. I have a quilt top finished. Blankets sound easier than batting.

Thank you everyone for the compliments - !

My friends held up the quilt for me - the red socks t-shirt guy is my friend Jaime - Im in love with him, too -- he is as nice as he is cute! I was behind the camera, hidden!

Some of the fabrics in the stripe quilt are fabrics my Grandmother gave to me a few weeks ago .. polyesters and everything! They all were pretty color-fast and did well in the wash/dryer.

I do use recycled bankets as battings - I do also use a backing fabric -- mostly old sheets. its just like using a batting -- only its a blanket ..

Ill look on ebay for more blankets... why did I not think of that?! I think I want to buy a big roll of that dream green batting -- but, WHERE would I store it?! There is hardly room for me to fart in this house!
