Date: 8/8/12 12:43 PM I haven't really sewed anything in half a year. I made a wall hanging a tribute to my dog back in Jan nothing since except mending. I'm wasting away in front of the tv as my daughter got Netflix and is sharing it with us. I think about all the fabric, thread, embroidery designs, patterns both quilting and clothing I have. Would really like to get back to it. As fall is coming my fav sewing time of the year. I cyber sew and think about sewing but just don't do it. Sewing room is in pretty good shape so no excuses there. I started to get the urge while mending a few things. I just miss it. ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com |

Date: 8/8/12 12:49 PM Some things that work for me:
* find a project that's well within my skill set and do it well
* turn someone else on to sewing (teach a newbie!)
* sew something for someone else
* if you typically give your sewing projects away, give yourself permission to make something special for yourself.
* find a new sewing website or store and see if there is a new fabric or other fresh inspiration.
* if you keep thinking about sewing and just can't seem to start, set a timer for 15 minutes and make yourself sew that whole time. (It's easy for me to start other projects, but not sewing - why is that??) ------ Mary

I dunno. I'm just going to wait it out. It's been terribly hot in NY since May (even hotter in my apartment), I'm sleeping too much, and last night, I et 3 Haagen Dazs ice cream bars and a bowl of bran flakes for dinner (I mean, but not all mashed together...)
Yeah, I'm worried about it, but not moved to do much else. At least I'm still getting to work and church.

Date: 8/8/12 1:15 PM She could get a haircut or have her nails done. Maybe she still needs the break. She lost the dog she loved a few months ago and she is still morning over his loss. She needs to give herself more time.
As for Netflex, that thing is addictive! I know, as we have it and I have watched more tv in the last year than in several years. We currently are watching the old di## Van Dyke Show from 1961.

Drat. I can't edit the ## symbols out. Sorry, this looks so bad... -- Edited on 8/8/12 1:49 PM -- ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors.

Date: 8/8/12 1:26 PM Take it a step at a time.....If you have a fast and easy "go to" pattern that gives fast results like a simple top or summer around -the-house shift or apron or make up bag or pillow or whatever, get it out and put it on your table or near you so you can see it. Later, go into your stash and choose a fabric and have fun dreaming over your yummy collection of fabrics, enjoying the colors, textures, etc. Bring them into your Netflix environment and let them beckon you. The timer idea is not a bad idea. Maybe you need to get a little tiny bit of satisfaction from the process before you get any real desire back.
It's the same way with exercise....We need to do it and know we feel better and have more enthusiasm to do it once we start, but we can't make ourselves start.
It aso helps to be accountable to others, so check in with us, ok?
For me right now, my sewing studio is one of 2 rooms in the house that has window air conditioning and we are having a heat wave in So. CA, so that's where I'd rather be.
Oh, and don't make your first project an alteration or repair unless that would give you great satisfaction because you have no other clothes to wear.
Good luck and check in, ok? We're rootin' for ya! |

Date: 8/8/12 1:27 PM Yes I've been watching Rescue Me and Mad Men like a fiend. My husband swears I'm having a affair with Denis Leary and John Hamm lol. Each series has like 5 seasons and have only watched a few episodes up until Netflix. I wish I still have a computer in my sewing room then could watch while I sew. ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com |

Date: 8/8/12 1:42 PM I look at it this way, sewing is what I do for FUN. When its fun, I sew. When it isn't fun I don't sew.
When sewing isn't fun, I have to shop for clothes which annoys me and I rush back to sewing.

Could you seam up something and finish the handwork (hemming, etc.) in front of the TV? ------ Mary

Date: 8/8/12 3:27 PM I lost her back in Jan. I missed her lots but I can look at pictures now without crying. I want another really badly but hubby says he's not ready plus he would be home with the dog all day and he's disabled. So I guess when the time is right the dog will find us as Nicky did. Or I will just come home with one and he will have to deal with it lol.
I have a friend whose dog is going through cancer treatment right now and I was thinking of making her something. ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com |
