OK, I'm not a beginner but this seems like the best place for this...I'm trying to cut out New Look 6899, View E (the shorter skirt). I have two yards of 44" wide fabric (technically it's 43" wide, I did prewash), which is what the pattern envelope says is needed, and I just cannot get it to work. There is no way that it's enough fabric, even if it was 44" wide. The layout says to fold crosswise, I've done that and also tried a lengthwise. Not gonna happen.

I'd buy more fabric but it was a JoAnn's red tag buy and I bought all that they had. Has this happened to anyone before? Are bolts of fabric slowly getting narrower? Does anyone have a pattern for a fuller skirt, about knee length, that doesn't take more than 2 yards?

GinevraV, did your material shrink? How much of this pattern is not fitting on the material? Honestly, 2 yards of 44" doesn't sound like enough for a circle skirt.

Did you get the right pattern pieces? Is it the length or width that's not enough? If the view E (shorter skirt) is 21" in length or shorter, pattern should fit 2 high top to bottom. It's not a full circle shirt so I can't imagine 2 yards left to right wouldn't be enough.

The fabric width was 43" after prewashing and drying. I double-checked and I was trying to use the correct pattern piece. I was trying to make the largest size.

It does say 2 yards for your chosen size and view. Maybe that one inch made the difference Which way is it not fitting?

Can you make your seam allowances smaller? I'm not sure what the seam allowance is on this pattern.

Also, you can remove some of the fullness if you need to. Just fold the pattern down CF and make a small tuck from the waist to the hem to do that, and then let out at the side seams if you need more width in the hip and tummy areas.

I've run into this problem before. With full, circle skirts, it's actually okay to fold out a little of the fullness of the pattern. Just make a few, dart-like folds from hem edge tapering toward the waist. Do it evenly. Sometimes all it takes is one tiny tuck in the pattern for it to work. Make sure you true the hem. I hope this helps

open your fabric all the way and lay flat. Try laying your pieces and hopfully it will fit. hope this helps

Most people who reviewed this skirt pattern say it fits large - would one size smaller fit the fabric?
