There was a short piece on our news tonite about a new service at Bloomingdale's. A bodyscanner that told you your measurements and apparently recommended the proper size of jeans.

Has anyone here tried it?

I remember several years ago, there was a body scanning company at the Puyallup SewExpo but the feedback on the results seemed to be mixed and I haven't heard of it lately.

If they've got the bugs worked out of the system, this sounds great for the home sewist, as well as rtw.

would be very useful at least some of the measurements were revealed to the customer; especially back width and length,

The measurements are sent to the customer's iPad and can be saved for shopping elsewhere....They didn't say on the report, but I'm sure there's a charge, so only fair that you get to keep your measurements...
The story was on our local NBC station, so they may be showing it in other parts of the country.

A number of years ago Lands End had the same type of system traveling around the country. THis was before they were sold to Sears. Obviously they chose not to continue with it.

It seems a little strange to me as it's simple enough to take a few measurements at the store and then try on pants.

When I had my bra fitting done at My Intimacy, they didn't even take measurements. The sales woman had me strip above the waist and in one glance she knew my exact size. The first bra she brought me fit perfectly even though the cup sizes was two sizes bigger than what the measurements said I should be wearing.

Maybe I talked myself into the body scan software after all! :D

Around two years ago, Tomorrowland in DisneyLand, Anaheim, there was an exhibit of a 3D body scan. The cast members were trained to demonstrate the software - their bodies had been previously scanned over the top of their uniform and each member was able to "try on" a variety of clothing to check for length, fit, suitability etc - just like in the fitting room at any store.
Last year when I visited, the exhibit had been replaced with another new invention - a Disney cast member told me that the software was now being sold to major clothing retailers.
I searched and found this link - on page 53 of the PDF there is a photo of the exhibit at Tomorrowland - one can see someone trying on a purple dress. The large screen replicated an ipad etc.

PSFK - future of retail.
