It's done! Well almost! I have to sand it one more time and put one more coat of Lacquer on. I'll be doing that in the morning. The Lacquer needs 30 minutes to dry so it won't take long to finish it. I'll be testing it out later tomorrow.

We used a 2 x 4 piece of high quality plywood. I decided I wanted it to fit under my slide on table instead of around the machine without my slide on table. DH and I marked the size, he cut it, I sanded the top, rounded the edges and stained it. When he got home from work today, we recycled some old shelf legs and cut them to size for the feet. Then I used spray Lacquer to seal it. I chose a spray on Lacquer semi-gloss and DH said gloss would have been better on wood. I chose Lacquer because it said no sanding between coats. DH pointed out it's still a good idea to sand even after staining, which I did not do. I did sand it after the last coat and it is smooth, so after one more sanding it should be perfect.

I already had stain, so I used what I had instead of spending more money trying to match the desk. Total cost $16.00. It is so light and easy to move. I'm very pleased with it!

I think it came out looking lovely. No one would guess you only spent $16 on this, as it looks classy. Now, we want to know how it performs and what you make with it.

I think it will be fine. It eliminated the drag on the lap quilt but I think I've decided I need a quilt frame/long arm machine/computerized quilting program to do the quilting for me! I know that will never happen but I can still want it! I love to make the quilt tops but find little pleasure in the quilting process.

What a great solution! I almost thought it was original to the table, it is beautiful.

You did a great job. It looks like it belongs to the original. Did you cut down the height of the table also. I have been planning on doing something very similar to this for about a year. lol...
I was thinking of using the Ikea height adjustable legs and setting it at 26.5 then having a table top similar to yours around the sewing machine. My shoulders are always up towards my ears when Im sewing and it makes my upper back tight.
I have also thought of cutting a hole in the top of a wooden table and sinking ithe machine into it. or making a cut out lower the machine and making a U around the machine using the original insert table as you have.
Very Nice. Enjoy it and thank you so much for sharing.
