I can't seem to figure out - when you have a pattern piece where one side has interfacing on it and it is sewn to the same piece without interfacing, which side faces to the outside of the garment? The one with the interfacing or the one without?

What are you making?

Is it a collar...the underside is interfaced.

If you are working with a neck facing (sleeve facing for a sleeveless item is the same), you interface the underside or inside of the facing piece. Then when you sew the seam, the right or outer sides face one another. When you have pressed and turned your piece, the interfacing side of the facing will be inside or against the inside of the garment. In other words, you won't see the interfacing.

OTOH, if you are working with a skirt/pants yoke, typically the interfacing is applied to the yoke piece that is part of the actual garment. The facing piece may or may not be interfaced. Does that make sense?

Thanks for the replies...I was never sure about collars and things like skirt yokes and dress waistbands.
