The Unique sewing cabinet that I've ordered will need an acrylic insert to fit around the free arm. I can get one from Allbrands and they will throw in the guide for free.
Looking at it, I'm wondering if it's just too big and bulky to be really practical or if it would just get in the way.
Anyone have one of these?

Which item are you referring to? The insert or the guide.

Can't tell what you might need without knowing which cabinet you are getting and what machine will be sitting in it.

I would wait until I got the cabinet and then decide.

the cabinet is the Unique model 572L.
The insert is here..
The guide attaches to the insert and I assume it is used primarily for piecing. Guide.

My question is are you going to be quilting, piecing fabric for quilts, or using large amounts of fabric in a project, such as for drapes/curtains, etc? If I were new to sewing and sewing large amounts of fabric, I might use it, but with any other application, it might get in the way. But if it's free, take it anyway. That way, if you should ever sell the table, you can sell the guide with it as an incentive.

Yes to the acrylic insertwith the lip!

I got my first insert (somewhere???) long before plexi tables became the rage.

Measure to be sure it will fit into the opening of the cabinet.

The cutout for the machine can be altered if not perfect....although I would try to get the measurement as perfect as you can and not too tight!

My husband re-cut the opening in insert for my second machine. Third machine came with a table I can use as an insert.

Old acrylic insert looking for a home - it was originally cut for a Bernina 1030, then the 1010 which needed a little extra room.

There have been some negative reviews about All Brands.
Just sending a heads-up.

Thank you. Yes, I am aware of the negative reviews. That was one reason I wanted to be sure that the seam guide would really be useful. If the guide is not a good item I will buy the insert from my Unique dealer instead and not risk getting into a tangle with Allbrands.

I have been purchasing from Allbrands for several years without any issues.

Just make sure of what you are reading and the product meets your requirements.

I do not read the reviews they have posted at the bottom of the screen for the product in question because they (reviews) usually do not relate directly to said product.

I was going to say you should let Unique order the insert for you and also make the opening large enough for a supersized machine if ever...

I agree with Artsewer. You can always get the guide later.
