Would anyone be interested in semi-annual (or more frequent) sewing-related outings in the greater DC area? By this I mean meetups at museum exhibits, lesser known fabric shops, mill tours (if such can be found) etc.

I know there was some discussion of regular meetings for fashion sewing discussion, and I don't want to impinge on that. This would just be "special event field trip" sorts of things, maybe half a day on a weekend a few times a year.

Ideas of places to visit:
ScrapDC
Textile museum tours, event days, and exhibits
exhibits at other museums both in DC and Baltimore
textile related events at local historical sites
tours of textile mills (there may be some in southern PA)
Paradise Fabrics (Suitland near the metro - supposed to have great prices on fabrics esp African batiks)

Any takers? If there is enough interest, it might be best to set up an optional email list, so that if there is a meetup planned, everyone on the list could be sent a notice (just one!) to check the message boards, since the regional communities threads tend to get buried pretty fast....

I'd be interested on an annual basis, at least It's 3.5 hrs for me to DC, but the better shopping is there.

I'm certainly interested! I live in DC proper and rely on the metro, so I'd have trouble getting to some of the remote stuff, but if there's enough interest, maybe we can rock some kind of carpool.

I will be out of town for this, but others may be interested:

Quote:
Complex Weavers invites you attend a fashion show featuring garments
and accessories using handwoven fabrics on Thursday, September 13 at
8 p.m., in the Aiton Auditorium at the National 4-H Youth Conference
Center, 7100 Connecticut Ave, Chevy Chase, MD 20815. The Runway
Fashion Show is informal and fun, with participants usually modeling
their own garments and lively commentary by a CW member generally
chosen for her sense of humor. If the event is anything like past CW
fashion shows you will see a variety of other fiber techniques used
together with handwoven fabrics.

A campus map showing the location of the Aiton Auditorium and parking
may be downloaded at http://complex-weavers.org/12maps.htm. Although
there is no admission charge, Complex Weavers suggests making a $5
donation to the organization.

I looks like this might be walkable or busable from Bethesda metro.

There is also an upcoming fiber arts show at the Ratner museum

I don't know if there will be any garment-type works at this one or not....

I'd be interested in this! I'm in DC proper and rely on public transportation too. And if there's a thread on a regular meeting could someone link me to it?
