Date: 8/13/12 7:05 AM Woo hoo! Thought I'd share a happy dance here, my quilt that I never intended as a show quilt when I started stitching it years go, has just won the Bed Quilts Professional Category in my State Guild's annual exhibition in Australia. Earlier in April it won the Exhibition Convenor's Award in another state.
I had a great time freemotion quilting my heart out onto it around the hand needle turn applique and enjoyed the fiddly nature of the little triangles in the machine pieced border. Using would you believe, leftovers from another quilt!
Baltimore Ladies Remembered
Credits for block design sources are on the blog.
I quilted it on my Bernina 440QE with the number 9 darning foot, feed dogs down where they belong, not stitch regulated. It is 188cm square (74 inches square) The grape leaves and bunches are totally unmarked as is the back fill design. There is a lot of outline quilting right next to the applique in and out of all the little bits so it took what felt like forever to do that step and then about a fortnight of frantic quilting to meet the earlier show's deadline.
One of my other entries has been selected to travel with a group of quilts around the country, its also on my blog above further down. Little improvisational piece in response to the challenge theme "Red Plus One".
Such fun to make and quilt! Enjoy- and I'd love to know what you think!

Date: 8/13/12 8:24 AM Beautiful!!! I was watching Sunday Morning last night (previously recorded) and there was a piece on the sculptor who made the tower for the Olympics in London. He was showing pieces of his sculpture and talking about the colors of each. When he got to a blue bowl, big enough to put your head in, he encouraged the reporter to put hers in the bowl and talked about how blue is the color of the sky and gives you a restful state. The blue in your quilt does the same for me; it gives my eyes a resting place. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. The key is to respect and live within Her."
