Misleading in my opinion

I got an email telling me they had "free shipping on all fabric one week only" and in one place only do they in a very subtle way mention that your order must be over $45. This is not a big deal I guess but in my opinion it was just a tad misleading. To me it is one of those "gotcha" moments. Be sure to read all ads carefully.

This has become SO common now in all sorts of online ads. I have recently seen it in so many I cannot even remember which ads! Yes, be careful. And some places offer free shipping if you buy a certain amount all the time and don't really mention it, so look at all the shipping and "How to order" stuff before buying anywhere.

Agreed. It's very common.

I'm always on the lookout for shipping deals, so for me it's second nature to check the fine print. I'm always pleasantly surprised if there's no limit!

Yes well, nothing in life's for free. Otherwise if they sell low-cost fabrics and the profit gets sucked up in shipping, that's not a very good business model :)

I read the sales ad in its entirety before I order just to make sure nothing is going to bite me.

I know fabric.com is $35, and usually I order from there first because of it. As far as I can recall, they are the lowest threshold for free shipping so I look just to check and make sure everywhere else. If I can't find info on shipping (free or not), I usually don't order at all.

What I get irked by is the discount off (25% or so) that doesn't tell you it's not on clearance, certain or sale items. I ran into that recently, and wound up not ordering.

In the end, we all have things that will keep us from one store or another.

Well yes, but they actually overcharge for shipping normally IMO, so it must work out when they do free shipping for a week.

I feel the same way--I saw that ad and got so excited until I read the fine print. I wish Denver Fabrics had lots of coupon codes like Fabric.com does. I got mad earlier because I found a Steve Madden code that gives you free shipping with no minimum. I was purchasing a pair of his clearance shoes online. When I typed in the code, a message came up that said it was not applicable to clearance items. Nowhere in the advertisement of the code did I see it did not apply to clearance---GRRRRR

This kind of stuff really irks me. Any time they use fine print, they're trying to hide it from you. Why not just advertise "free shipping on all orders over $35"? And the whole thing about not giving free shipping on clearance items is such a crock...a sale is a sale is a sale. There are so many little catches...

All of the wholesale vendors I use for the garment deco side of my business (blank t-shirts, etc) charge a handling charge, and what they call a cash loss discount of about 3% if you use a credit card to order. Really! Seeing as how they only way to order is on-line, with a credit card I find it insulting that they charge me to pull, and package my items, and charge me to use my credit card to pay. To me, these are their costs of doing business, and they should just build it into the price of the items.
