Searching online for sewing patterns
why can't I search by fabric type?

When looking for patterns I'm always fustrated to find what looks great only to then check the details and find I need a stretch fabric and vice versa. Or that it needs a fabric I've no chance of getting hold of/affording.
Anyone else wish pattern companies would allow you to search patterns by recommend fabric type? Or is it just me?

I think some of that is that we cheat, and use different types of fabrics than the ones recommended. Once you've sewn for a little bit, you know a lot about fabric, and so you can get away with substitutions.

That would be such a useful way to add more interest to pattern searches. It would also help us look at designs we otherwise didn't notice. I would like to take it a step further and have definitions for recommended fabrics such as "laundered cotton".
