Date: 8/16/12 3:01 AM I'll be going to Japan to visit my family.
Last time I visited I wasn't so much into sewing yet, so I never visited a fabric store. What a shame...
This time I'll have my mom watch the kids and spend some quality "me time" at the fabric store!!
If you were to go to Japan, what fabric would you look for?
I'm not talking "Japanese print", but more of a fabric type.
For example I'll be looking for double gauze because I can't seem to find much in good price (I can't pay the price here because I know how much it really costs if it's been imported from Japan).
Or I'll be checking out their knits. Whenever I buy knit clothing from Japan it seems so much softer.

Subject: Im going to Japan! Date: 8/16/12 9:02 AM I found some beautiful fine cottons that had been manufactured in Japan while I was there. The price was surprisingly reasonable, as well. The prints were gorgeous and the fabric was just so smooth. Wish I had bought more! ------

Japanese denims are supposed to be the best in the world (apparently they bought all the old machines that your country used to make denim with ((in the 50's if I remember correctly)). If I was in Japan I'd definitely search for denim. I would also look for some fantastic cottons (shirtings). ------

Date: 8/17/12 12:00 PM I have a friend that worked in Japan and bought fabric for me. There's a street of fabric and craft shops. One of the bags said 'tomato' on it, that was the name of the shop. I found this blog that mentions it'tomato fabrics' ------
My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 8/17/12 12:41 PM Double gauze, of course, but if you are in the market for an unbelievably comfortable summer cover for your bed, keep your eyes open for triple gauze.
Only because it's on deep discount did I buy this magnificent, soft, airy bed covering. For some reason, Restoration Hardware is discontinuing it, and this is one of only two triple gauze coverlets I have ever seen for sale in the U.S.
This is a very wide piece of cloth (106" X 106"), so I doubt it would be available in a fabric store, but if you happen to find it in a bedding-type of store, it could become either something for your bed--or a lot of triple gauze yardage! |
