Thanks for the warning, Restart, but what are implications of the hacking. Did the hackers get everyone's credit card numbers and email addresses. If you click on the link, does that mean your computer will be infected. How does Sawyer Brook intend to correct the problem? I placed a small order with the company recently, and I'd like to know.

nancy2001, you should probably call or email them. It's possible they don't even know about this...the "bot" could be just intercepting incoming traffic. It could also just be the link that has been compromised. Someone here should be told as well.

Good news. It looks like these are the "nice" kind of hackers.

The message they left on the main page says they don't delete any of the site owners' content. They just upload their own message. It's a roundabout way of letting people with insufficient security on their site know that they can easily be hacked.

In other words, these guys hacked the site and didn't actually destroy anything -- they just left a note to let Sawyer Brook know beefed-up security might be a good idea. (Sort of like if you left your car unlocked and someone broke in but didn't take anything -- just left a note telling you to be careful and lock up next time.)

Everyone who's concerned about having visited the site can most likely breathe easy; these don't seem like the type of people to steal your card info and do anything malicious with it. I could be wrong, but I thought I'd offer my two cents in hopes of calming anyone who might be panicked.

I don't know what the fallout will be if any....just always stay away for awhile from those websites until safety nets have been installed on their end.

Subject: Sawyer Brook is back! Date: 8/20/12 11:45 AM

Many thanks to all who notified us of the compromise to our Home page. The index page of our web site was indeed breached yesterday. As soon as we discovered this fact (thanks to many loyal customers) we restored the page and immediately began to ensure that this was a limited breach. The Sawyer Brook web store, which operates from an entirely different server, was not breached. We have heavy security around all aspects of the store to protect our customers and our business.

Thank you for understanding that we have been focused on ensuring the security of the site before posting to forums like these. If you have any questions, please contact us at service@sawyerbrook.com. Thanks for your concern... we care for you the way you care for us. We will always, always let you know if there has been a problem that compromises your personal information.

Barb, thank you for taking the time to respond and reassure everyone here. It would be nice if you didn't have to concern yourself with stuff like this, and could just sell us fabric, but that doesn't appear to be a realistic wish. Good luck with all the juggling you have to do and again, thank you.

And just a note to others that many will already know - if you get a message on your own computer that you have been hacked or the site you are visiting is dangerous and to "click here to fix it" DO NOT click on it. Back out of the site and check your anti-virus software. And in my case, call DH in my sweetest voice and say "Honey, I know you don't like to work when you aren't at work, but could you just check this out for me?" I used to wish I had married a car guy - who knew in 1974 that a computer guy was actually going to be more useful?
