Date: 8/19/12 1:59 PM Hey Maia... you asked about the Opal Press in another thread, so I thought I'd start a new topic for it. I had an ElnaPress back in the 80's but sold it when I needed to "unweight" when I moved. Big mistake! So here's the new one: The biggest difference between this one and the one I had 30 years ago is the flip-up sleeve-size board. I haven't used that sleeve thing much... yet. When it comes to knocking out fusibles, you can't beat this thing. :) I probably paid too much for mine... now that I have the new one, I see that there are other "brands" (probably all made by Janome, huh?) that cost about half of what I paid. UPDATE: Humpf... now ya went and done it, Maia! While I was doing some Google Image searches (trying to find a pic of that arm in its raised position) ... aaaaargh... I found this: That would look Beeeeeautiful alongside my Janome. There is this "vap-o-jet" thingie on the handle that sprays water... but to be honest, when I'm sewing, I still just have a water mister bottle that I can grab and direct what I want to hit with the water. Price is about $800 - but remember... I come from the land of dealer MSRP arrogance... so you might be able to find this closer to $600. And the less expensive brands... well... I absolutely would shop and compare those - especially if you compare the layout of the electronic temp display, etc. They're probably all getting produced from the same place. Also .. I would do a general Google search for these kind of things... I know there is a brand out there that does have steam. I'll have to look into this further once I get the Creative Performance paid for. I've wanted one for a while for interfacing for when I make bags. I only use it for fusibles and use a spray bottle. It really cuts the time fusing. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

I used it a lot when I first got it. Works great on T-shirts. But then I got an Elise steam iron that I love and find it easier to use than the press. The dealer had 2 Elna Press boxes by her door - and she cracked the red one open for me so we could look inside. Matches my Horizon ..... I might have to see about "trading up" to it. It sits around collecting dust. I don't use fusible interfacings enough to bother with it. I think mine was in the $400 range, so definitely shop around. Wish there were just set prices for sewing stuff! ------ I heart Panzy, Pfaff Creative Performance, the sewing machine love of my life! I wonder if it's useful for pressing already made clothes, or more for pressing while constructing clothes. I wear mostly cotton, and ironing my clothes this summer has been burdensome. Winter's not bad, I wear long underwear under clothes, so I don't have to launder the outer garments after each wearing. This summer I've been wearing mostly dresses made of two layers of cotton voile over cotton voile slips, and the heat had me washing a dress or two a day. I tried a Rowenta garment steamer, but it doesn't really get wrinkles out of cotton. The Elna Press looks like it'd be great for a final press on quilt blocks, but that's not enough reason to commit that much space and $$$.
