Date: 8/20/12 11:37 AM I'm working on some new ballroom costumes and I'm looking for a fishnet fabric (ideally stretchy) that has really large holes in it (like 1-1/2"). Does anyone have any idea where to find fabric like this? I've been searching on line for quite some time and really haven't found anything. The largest holes I can find are about half that size. Thank you in advance for any ideas! |

Date: 8/20/12 11:49 AM Spandex House and Spandex World both have fishnet, but I don't know if it is as big as you are looking for. Not sure I have ever seen it that big. I did find some interesting fabric sources recently when I searched under party supplies or event planning. They had bolts of chiffon and organza, so maybe fishnet, too? Good luck! ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown. |

Date: 8/20/12 12:21 PM I don't think I've ever see any with 1.5" holes. I think the biggest I've seen is maybe .75".
I would try Spandex House, Spandex World and Stretch House -- all in New York.

Date: 8/20/12 4:13 PM Thanks for the input! It's going to be a busy costuming season for dance this fall!
Tourist - that's a great idea on the party supply stuff, even if just for the chiffon!
SheBear - do you recall where you saw the .75"? Also, do you know if all three of those places have storefronts if I got ambitious and made the drive down to NYC? |

Date: 8/20/12 4:34 PM I believe they all have storefronts -- I know both Spandex House and Spandex World do (open Monday to Saturday).
If I remember correctly it was Spandex House that had the .75" but that was at least 3 years ago when I bought some for a figure skating costume.
Good to hear you're busy -- I can totally relate between skating, dance and bodybuilding/fitness.
Good luck in your search.

Date: 8/22/12 11:19 AM I used to go to Wolff and Fording's when I lived in Virginia and sewed for ballroom costumes. They had a hole in the wall warehouse shop that had all kinds of fabrics and ingredients for dance costumes plus a selection of rtw dance recital type costumes they sell a lot of. They have an online store now, look in lower left corner of the page for "Companion Fabrics". You could call and see what they have. ------ Liz

I don't think they have a web presence but they're easy to find and call. Lots of people here use them for Ballroom fabric.

Date: 3/12/13 3:13 PM I recently saw an overbouse with large fishnet holes. I'd love to make one, if I could find the fabric. My question is how do you sew the stuff? I've sewn for over 50 yrs but I can't figure it out. Does anyone have some suggestions?
