Date: 8/21/12 3:07 PM I could not find anything but lightweight stuff at Fabric Mart. DH is wanting just plain long sleeve tshirts like the Beefy tees. I have a hard time telling what I am geting on a website so I ordered 4 different types fro Fabric.com and just got an email telling me they could not fill my order, so no T-shirt fabric again. Fashion fabric club had something but again I really can't tell if it is heavy enough, and last time I ordered from them it took forever to get the order. Anyway, does anyone else have any idea |

Date: 8/21/12 3:29 PM If you're looking for a cotton/spandex blend check out Spandex House and Spandex World.
I have gotten some black and white cotton/spandex from them in the past and it's been of the "beefier" variety. They will send you out swatches.

Date: 8/22/12 11:37 AM Would he wear an interlock? It's easier to find than a nice beefy jersey. I have had good luck with Fabric.com's organic knits although their black is not a pitch black but that's fine with me.
ETA Blue Desert Company uniform fabrics. I have ordered their poplin by the yard for DD's scrubs and it is excellent quality. Good service too. I see they have jersey but not in their online order lineup. -- Edited on 8/22/12 11:52 AM -- ------ Liz

Date: 8/22/12 12:17 PM Gorgeous Fabrics has some she lists as beefy and black (although for some reason it shows up as grey in the photo). Note a couple of things:
The fabric is very wide, so it's economical for us, and
There is a tiny bit of lycra in this heavy knit. Do not freak out at this. My experience with heavy, pure cotton knits is that they do 'progressive shrinking,' so the tee you lovingly made to fit gets shorter and wider with each wash--to some extent even if you pre-washed fairly aggressively. A tad of lycra seems to help stabilize this problem (though I'd still recommend pre-washing).

Date: 8/22/12 1:11 PM Try Mood fabrics. They have cotton knits with and without lycra. You want to look for a medium weight fabric I'd think. You can send for samples. ------ www.nancyksews.blogspot.com |

Date: 8/22/12 1:38 PM One of the "hats" I wear is garment decorator. I've purchased alot of tees. The cotton tees come in various weights, the two most common being 5.6 oz, and 6.1 oz. The Beefy tee you reference is a 6.1 oz knit. So...I think you're looking for a 6.1 oz knit. Now all you have to do is find a source that can tell you the weight of the fabric |

Date: 8/22/12 4:06 PM GirlCharlee has a 7 oz cotton knit in black. She also lists an 11 oz cotton knit, but it has quite a bit more lycra in it.
