Need Tips: Making stockings last longer. I remember two: do you have any?

I guess we all know these tips: clear nail polish to stop a run. Also spraying a run with hair spray. This morning, I PAINTED the heels of a new pair of nylons with clear nail polish. Took a while and I'm wondering if there are any other tips out there. I could paint them with thinned Elmers glue but I don't believe that stuff is waterproof. j.

I always have a bottle of fray check in the sewing room. During colder (California cold) weather I wear thicker stockings so they are less prone to running. In high school I use to be in dance production, drill team and color guard. We use to always wear these thick "skin colored" tights. Those were not pretty but pretty durable. Maybe their look has improved because mine always looked like I had a bad orange tan.

O.K....people are still wearing them, eh? Well, I buy knee-highs by the 6 pr. (the sheer support knee-his last a lot longer) and when there is a hole I toss that one. NEVER going back to the days of nail polish on my nylons....yipes. As in, pantyhose? Haven't worn those in years. Somehow supposed to strengthen & last longer. Worth a try? Support or light support seem to be slightly better made & last longer than non-support cheaper pairs in my experience. Always wash in a net bag in the machine if you don't want to hand wash. Assume no one would ever put their nylons in the dryer....

I for one do not miss them one bit!), but back when we wore them with everything, I found there to be a HUGE difference in quality, durability, and fit between nicer brands like Victoria's Secret, and drugstore stockings like No Nonsense. They feel better, fit better, and last longer. ------ ~Gem in the prairie

I would love to try it. I still wear pantyhose for competition, although I have been told many people wear fishnets that apparently have padded feet so they don't cut into the soles of your feet, I haven't tried them yet. I am told they last much better than standard pantyhose and make your legs look better on the floor. Maybe it is my old eyes, but I have watched a lot of competitions and really can't see a difference. The product was called something "hose", I think and was simple to use (no rinse, maybe?), made them last longer and maybe odor preventing?
