I got that crazy bag done... and last night, I was up until 2:30 doing my first attempts at makin' a quilt sandwich & doing my first FMQ. (I pieced the top - my first quilt - last month using my granddaughter's New Lotus) I did so. much. homework. before buying this machine - and much of it on here. Lots of searches. You guys helped me get de-Elna-ized as well as helped me figure out the path to this Horizon. And OMG... I needed to get a barometer on what kind of price I should expect to have to cough up... and in the end, I saved another $700 that may not have happened if it hadn't been for the discussions I read on here! Now I'm trying to go "La-la-la" (with my hands over my ears) and not get sucked into another big shiny object for a few months while I work out some personal life crapola. You will find something that just screams your name (if it has not found You by now...) and you will jump right into the deep end. Pictures, we want to see finished pictures. I know how the hunt went. You started out with machine A and then thought "I'd really like this feature and machine A does not have it" so onto machine B, then C, then D and through the alphabet you go. I did that too and so have many others. What amazes me is a few people do Not go through this. They just buy a machine and sew. I Don't know how they can do that! The HUNT is the FUN part. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. Janome puts as many features on the Elna as they do on their own brand counterpart. ...or... 2. Elna goes back to bein' Elna - independent & made in Switzerland and goes back to bein' a thing of beauty & precision and is a joy to behold. (Still feel that way about my 62!) ...or... 3. The Elna dealer in this town competes on price. I don't see any of these three things happening. And I couldn't be more pleased (so far) with this Horizon for the price paid. I kinda went backwards. I looked at emb/sewing combos and it didn't take long to think this doesn't make sense. So then I went after quality sewing machines. And then the hunt was done being fun... because the pricing nonsense (at least here in Colorado) makes this worse than looking at cars, IMO! That said, I did want a built in Dual Feed Gizmo... and I did pay attention to the differences in those. That was the main feature about the Janome/Elna line that makes more sense to me than others.... especially ruling out some others that don't even have it! So after some personal stuff passes... I'll go round two and look at embroidery machines! (In the mean time, I am gonna trade up to get the red Elna Press... that'll have to do for my "shiny object" obsession next month.) But no..
