I have been up at my cabin all summer, pretty much running around in a bathing suit. I came back in the cities last night and was going out with a friend and I put on one of my tried and true rtw outfits from spring... a knit outfit guaranteed to fit no matter my weight fluctuations.

I put the top on and noticed the horizontal line between my breasts. What?!? This shirt doesn't fit at all! And it never did! The only reason I liked it was because it was long enough and loose in the waist!

Put on another shirt and the shoulder seams were off my shoulders. THAT'S no good.

Put on another shirt but the darts were puckery and didn't point in the right direction. How could I have not realized the truly terrible fit on my clothes? I knew I had trouble finding clothes that fit, but I thought the items I actually bought DID fit.

Realizing that it was my eyes and mind that had changed this summer, not my body, I cursed you all out big time, grabbed a raincoat, and ran out the door.

I sincerely appreciate the wonderful education you guys are giving me, but now I'm gonna end up throwing out all my clothes.

Yes, once content in our ignorance, our eyes were opened, and we couldn't go back to RTW. Both a blessing & a curse.

Plus, we can't do the year round bathing suit thing in MN.

This happens to a lot of us here -- not throwing out all our clothes! -- just noticing things now that we never noticed before and almost wish we didn't know.

And you're adorable.

Yep, that's the "down" side to sewing clothes that fit!

I have been slowly sewing a mostly me-made closet (excepting undies, some coats, a few pairs of LLBean knit pants, and jeans - oh, and a few tie dyed shirts) - so this week has been me-made close to 100%. And I'm not spending lots of time tugging at my clothes...;-)

Ahh, summer at the lake. Isn't it a wonderful thing?

I had the same thing happen when I started sewing again a few years ago, especially with pants. A PR member suggested I use a really great fitting pair of pants that I own as a blueprint for measurements. I went to my closet and realized I didn't HAVE any. Talk about saggy behinds!

I madly sewed clothing at the rate of about an item a week and can now happily say MOST of my clothing fits quite well.

I'm trying to inspire you to keep working at fitting and sewing.

You're doing it! But it was sure a shock to see what a mess my closet was actually in. I was really settling for minimal satisfaction. That underbutt dart I learned to make was worth every penny I spent setting up to learn to sew. Seriously...the machine, the patterns, the fabric, the time. That one underbutt adjustment was worth it all! So I'm very much looking forward to learning new ways to fit clothes.

What underbutt dart are you referring to? Do tell! I suffer from saggy butt syndrome so I am most definitely interested....
