Gold Standard Warrenty for Ellisimo... Worth the $599 and could it be purchased at the 1 yr mark? Advise gearing Gold Standard Warranty

I know this question has already been touched on in previous posts by others, but I was hoping for any fresh advise and wisdom that may be floating around. So firstly, I have had my Ellisimo Gold for about a month and everything seems to be going fine, but I am still haunted by the option of that GS warranty. The dealer was offering it for $599, and although I don't want to be cheap with my Baby, that still felt a little steep so I asked for a little more time to decide. I appreciate the value, and the potential benefit of not having to hesitate to bring it in for the tuneups and what not... But might it not be worth the risk to just wing it? I also saw it suggested on PR that since you are essentially covered for that first year, it is really only a 2 year extension. Is that an accurate way of looking at it? Also, my dealer made it seem as though the warranty was something that would have to be purchased up front, not defers til the end of that first year. Has that been everyone else's experience or is this something I might be able to negotiate on. Thank you!!

But you may be comfortable without that extra coverage. Question is, is the extra coverage worth the cost, to you? If it's haunting you, it sounds like you are feeling a bit uncomfortable without the coverage. Talk to your dealer and see if they can negotiate a better price or throw in an appetizer or two; there must be some feet or thread or stabilzer Baby would like to have. ------ I heart Panzy, Pfaff Creative Performance, the sewing machine love of my life! Like you say, it really is for 2 years. I've had my Quattro for almost 3 years and have only had to have the threader and tensions adjusted, and replaced a bobbin case. That amounted to a lot less than $600. ------ Singer 66-16. I don't know if that's the case for you, but it's something to think about even if the cleanings don't entirely cover the cost of the plan - if there's just a little bit leftover that they don't cover, that just means you're paying that small amount for the two years of coverage. ------ Olivia, my Pfurple Pfaff Creative Performance Bernina Aurora 430 BabyLock Enlighten

While $600 is still a large chunk of change, as LynneRowe said, it's a small chunk compared to what you paid for the machine. As far as some warranties and plans go, it actually looks like a good deal to me. I've seen plans cost almost as much which would cover a product maybe half the price of your sewing machine! The terms of the protection plan should be available for you to read. Read it. While I'm sure your dealer is properly representing what the plan entails, you should still read it and make sure you know for certain what it covers and more importantly, what that $600 isn't going to cover. What I'm more curious about is what exactly does it cover in comparison to the standard warranty? It sounds like you get cleanings, but is this a warranty extension or a protection plan - are power surges, a damaged LCD screen or any other user error covered in this? I wouldn't imagine the normal Baby Lock warranty would cover accidental damage, but I could be wrong. The screen and the circuit board would be you most expensive repairs. That being said I've had my TOL Janome for almost 10 years now and the most I've paid is money for a needle threader to be replaced. If you get free cleanings you would get probably 2, once a year if the warranty is two years and they avg about $100 a piece. So that's some of it. ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com

I was offered the 3 year protection plan built in to a decent out-the-door price on an Ellisimo. I think buying it after the fact it just boils down to being another profit center for the dealership - instead of it being a perk for which he would have won your business to begin with. I just got a 2 year complete warranty (along with the standard 5 year electronic, 25 year every-other-part) with the 7700 I just got. ------ nightowlsally.com On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel. Would I have paid that much money for it, no - I would have negotiated it down as much as possible, if I bought it at all. A friend of mine has the Ellisimo and she did purchase the GS, saying she wouldn't be without it. I do think it is a matter of personal preferrence. I have been stung with other extended warranties, so typically do not buy them.
