Need I say more?

There is a close up of what I was doing. LOL, yeah it wasn't that hard, but really now, just think how much easier this may have been with a larger harp!

On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel.
My dearest wish is to have Bernina come out with a machine that doesn't give me a reason to *not* buy it.

Date: 8/25/12 0:03 AM An actual conversation started when my son (who is a TREMENDOUS technology nerd) walked behind me and saw a picture of your machine.
Son: Look! someone attached an iPad to her sewing machine!
Me: No, that's part of the sewing machine. Hers is computerized.
Son: Oh man, Mom, you HAVE to get one of those!!
Me: I already have an iPad.
Son (laughing because he loves me): No, really, Mom, you HAVE to.
Me: They cost around $7000.
Son: I like your iPad.
Me: I know. |

Date: 8/25/12 0:04 AM Nice sewing machine!!
I think you may have stumbled across a great idea--one person take a photo while sewing (like you have) and others jump in and say how they would sew this!
To me this looks the opposite of the way I would sew this edge. By any chance are you left handed? I would have sewn it with the bulk of the garment on the outside of the SM. And I would've used the Bi-level topstitch foot
This could be interesting to see what others say! I am glad you showed us!

Date: 8/25/12 0:12 AM So not to discourage you from getting an **11** inch harp... (heh heh) ....
But what were you doing that required you to have the bulk of your item to the right instead of to the left?
(I'm missin' somethin' here)

Date: 8/25/12 0:19 AM jzygail, NO you can get one like mine on close out for like MUCH less than that now! Yeah, it does look like an Ipad is stuck onto the machine! Maybe that's why I do love the screen on this machine.
pj - no I'm not left handed.
The underarm seam came almost to a point. It was impossible to turn up the hem evenly all the way around, with the point and the bulk of the underarm seam. Not being able to see how it was tapering underneath, I decided to turn it over so I could see the edges. I do have a foot similar to the one you linked to, but I wanted to use the edgestitch foot for this. I HATE when I've hemmed something from the right side and it's not following that folded edge exactly on the under side! Weird, I know! I should be worried about it being even from the right side. Usually I do have the bulk the other way -- really I do, but this shirt is just different!
Lynne and Rip: Sigh, I am seeing a kaleidoscope of colors right now!! Blue, red, purple..... I am quite psychedelic at the moment!

Date: 8/25/12 0:35 AM PJ now I see what that foot you linked to is all about. Neat foot! I have not seen one like that before. Bernina's edgestitch/topstitch (10) foot is a bit different. I really like it, but I also like this Pfaff foot too. ------ Bernina 730E, 530, and 350PE

4 members like this. Date: 8/25/12 1:43 AM I'm glad you brought this up. Tiny harps are a pet peeve of mine. If you look at the machines from the 1950's they all had large harps. Someone over the next 20 years decided we didn't need all that room and the harps have been getting smaller and smaller. On some Brother machines they are almost non-existent. Now, to get a large harp we have to pay a lot of money for it. Makes we wonder if the people who design these machines actually sew on them. ------ Brother PC420

Date: 8/25/12 6:25 AM Viking makes a foot like that also, called a left edge topstitching foot. I doesn't appear that it's compatible with your Viking? ------ Singer 66-16. Singer 600e, Kenmore 158.1913 , Viking 1100, Brother 4000D, Brother Quattro, Bernina 930, White 634DE,
