Son: Look! someone attached an iPad to her sewing machine! Me: No, that's part of the sewing machine. Hers is computerized. Son: Oh man, Mom, you HAVE to get one of those!! Me: I already have an iPad. Son (laughing because he loves me): No, really, Mom, you HAVE to. Me: They cost around $7000. Son: I like your iPad. Me: I know.

I think you may have stumbled across a great idea--one person take a photo while sewing (like you have) and others jump in and say how they would sew this! To me this looks the opposite of the way I would sew this edge. By any chance are you left handed? I would have sewn it with the bulk of the garment on the outside of the SM. And I would've used the Bi-level topstitch foot This could be interesting to see what others say! I am glad you showed us! ------ Thank you Lord for my Mother who taught me the joy of sewing.

Yeah, it does look like an Ipad is stuck onto the machine! Maybe that's why I do love the screen on this machine. pj - no I'm not left handed. The underarm seam came almost to a point. It was impossible to turn up the hem evenly all the way around, with the point and the bulk of the underarm seam. Not being able to see how it was tapering underneath, I decided to turn it over so I could see the edges. I do have a foot similar to the one you linked to, but I wanted to use the edgestitch foot for this. I HATE when I've hemmed something from the right side and it's not following that folded edge exactly on the under side! Weird, I know! I should be worried about it being even from the right side. Usually I do have the bulk the other way -- really I do, but this shirt is just different! Lynne and Rip: Sigh, I am seeing a kaleidoscope of colors right now!! Blue, red, purple..... I have not seen one like that before. Bernina's edgestitch/topstitch (10) foot is a bit different. If you look at the machines from the 1950's they all had large harps. Someone over the next 20 years decided we didn't need all that room and the harps have been getting smaller and smaller. On some Brother machines they are almost non-existent. Now, to get a large harp we have to pay a lot of money for it.
