Hi ladies, I hope some of you are able to help with recommendations of places that will do large professional keyhole buttonholes. My favourite tailor in Burnside, Adelaide has a machine but 3.8cm is his limit, I need a 4 cm buttonhole. i have made a herringbone wool coat, quite thick and have 3 gorgeous large buttons for it, just awaiting buttonholes...

i am coming to Melbourne in 2 weeks and would like to get them done then, preferable in a place 15 km radius from Burwood or in the city. Or accessible by public transport from the city.

Any ideas?

I found Katrina's Designs in 8/50 Bourke St recommended, any one use them?

THanks

WA here so no help to you, however if you don't get answer here you may like to post your question on the Sewing Down Under thread. There are a few Melbourne ladies with lots of local knowledge so I am sure someone will be able to help you.

Just a thought - I used large snaps rather than button holes for my 3cm buttons on the coat I made last year - just couldn't bear the thought of then going wrong etc. This has worked well and I plan on using the giant snaps again.

yummymummy this is a coat I made several years ago. The buttons are 3.8cm and I was worried I wouldn't like the look of such large buttonholes so I used large press studs to do the coat up but still have my lovely large buttons showing on the front.

I don't think it looks odd at all, worth a thought anyway.

Thanks Paula. I have been to Buttonmania, I did not know they make buttonholes, have you personally used them or know someone who has? or the place that you mentioned in Malvern?

Thank you Lynny for that suggestion. I have done so before, but on the previous coat of quite friable fabric, my collar started coming apart, with all that tugging.so that would only be my choice if I couldn't get the buttonholes done otherwise.

I do like your coat and would not have guessed there were snaps underneath...
