Can you shorten a zipper at the bottom?

I like the way the tape extends beyond the teeth at the top and wondered if there's any reason why I can't shorten it at the bottom (bartacking over the teeth an inch or sew above where I plan to cut it). ------ Mary http://checkmatesystem.com
