Date: 8/30/12 2:55 PM A friend gave me a Griest buttonholer a little while back. I finally took it off the shelf and tried it. IT IS FANTASTIC! I have no idea why it took me so long to put it to work. My only problem is it doesn't have a 1/2" template. There are probably other templates that I would like to have as well, but for now, that's the most critical. Does anyone know of a source for Greist templates?

Date: 8/30/12 3:09 PM I think you would have to look on Ebay or Etsy... occasionally you might find them at a thrift shop or sewing machine dealer where they took a sm on trade with a buttonholer. .... I have had good luck on Ebay myself.
I just tried Ebay put in buttonholer you get more hits than just enter Griest buttonholer .... Good luck! -- Edited on 8/30/12 3:53 PM -- ------ I am a gal from Kalamazoo.... oh what a gal... smile.... It is in Michigan... la la la ...love that Glen Miller classic!

Date: 8/30/12 3:55 PM I think Singer templates work with Greist. I found Classic Sewing very helpful for information and products.

She sells a teflon grease that you can lube the mechanism with. She said she could sell me a buttonholer even though it isn't listed on her website. Ask her for the templates you want. |

Date: 9/6/12 12:37 PM Thanks a million, but I also have a Singer buttonholer. Unfortunately, the temples are not interchangeable. The Singer buttonholer fits one of my sewing machines, but not the other one. Hence the initial question about Greist. ------ nelnel |

Date: 9/6/12 1:02 PM The Singer & Greist templates are interchangeable...the only ones that aren't are the longer plastic ones for the Singer Professional Buttonholer. The ones for the regular Singer buttonholer will fit.
There is a set of 4 extra sizes that you can usually get on ebay. It has a 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" keyhole, & a 15/16"...If I remember correctly. You can also get an eyelet cam but, they're harder to find & sell for $20 or so! -- Edited on 9/6/12 1:04 PM -- |

Date: 9/6/12 4:28 PM The Singer and Greist buttonholers are identical - not the Singer Professional buttonholer, but the one made for straight stitch machines. I believe they were even manufactured by the same company under different names or something like that.
Anyway, the templates are interchangeable. The supplementary set has cams sized 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 15/16" (straight) and 5/8" (keyhole).
The template set is all over eBay, I've even sold a set of them there myself. Don't pay more than $6-$8
For example
HERE - eBay Listing for templates -- Edited on 9/6/12 4:34 PM -- ------ Margaret (Singer 201-2), Betty (Singer 15-91), Bud (Singer 503), Kathy (Singer 221), Liz (Singer 221 Centennial Edition)
