can anyone help me - I have been using my cf cards for both my janome 350e and my kenmore elite and have never had a problem up to last week. My granddaughter came over and she put her camera on to download some photos to my computer and since then - the computer does not acknowledge either of the flash cards and says I have to reformat them - well I have tried that but windows comes up saying unable to reformat - what can I do to use them - I am now using a USB stick but I don't like it - how can I set my c0mputer again to recognize my flash cards? -

Is the CF card acknowledged by both the emb machines? (I have the 300e).

If the 350e can still read the CF card, you may need to reformat - for embroidery use, it has to be reformatted on the 350e not the computer. (Check your instruction book).

Back up all your designs/data before reformatting as it will erase everything from the CF cards.

I know nothing about the Kenmore but I would think the process would be same - format on the embroidery machine.

Don't see how downloading pics to computer would affect the CF.

Do the sewing machines recognize the cards? (If they do, then the cards are fine)

Did she put your cards in her camera, or did she just download her own card onto your computer?

Is your computer recognizing any CF card?

I'm wondering if a pin in your card reader may have bent or broke. Try buying a new reader - you can get one pretty cheap at Walmart, OfficeMax, Best Buy, etc. Just check the return policy in case a new reader doesn't solve the problem.

You need to reformat the cards in the embroidery machine for it to install the file set up. If your grandaughter used those cards in her camera it probably overwrote the original Janome file system.

If you are getting a message that says the card needs to be formatted, then the computer does know the card is there, but for some reason cannot read what is on it. Do the designs show up on your machine?

Just FYI, you CAN format the card using the computer, but then you need to add the file EmbF5 to hold your designs.

This Tutorial on formating the 300E might help - although it's written for the 300e - the 350e may be similar. Hopefully someone with a 350e will come along to confirm this.

And yes, the computer can format the card. But if you want to use it to store embroidery designs with the 350e file format, it has to be formatted in the embroidery machine.

I hope you can save your designs on the card(s). Have you tried the cards in any other computer. Try that before you reformat whether on the computer or the embroidery machine.

Hope this helps

OK...this is a shot in the dark here...perhaps when the card for the camera was inserted in your computer, the computer changed the default setting for cards to the camera card. You can try doing a System Restore on the computer restoring all the settings back to before the camera card was installed.

This is not the same as restoring a back-up...this just restores the system settings. You'll find that by clicking:

Screaming Mimi, the computer would not interpret the card differently based on content, however the sewing machine would.
