Polartec

Date: 9/3/12 1:17 PM I happened upon some polartec fabric at Denver Fabrics after looking for a really long time. There's such a huge difference in quality between the regular fleece I've been seeing and the real Polartec. They had some available for $7 per yard for a lovely soft sage green. I'm cutting out the pattern today for Kwik Sew 3044 View B. This fabric is so gorgeous; soft as butter! I bought 3-½ yards. I did have a struggle laying out the material because there was so much of it and it wants to stick to itself. I'm going to make the top first and then lay out the pants. I can't say enough about how really soft and nice this stuff is. I just hope they get more in other colors. We used to have an outlet store in downtown Seattle. The stuff is head and shoulders above anything else on the market. I have a lot of microfleece I bought more than 10years ago. It feels so soft and is so thin. I wish I bought more of their products before all the changes the company has gone through. I then made the same jacket in mini size for my boyfriend's daughter...it rocks. It is leaps and bounds better to sew and wear than cheapy fleece. ------ http://kimsewsilly.blogspot.com/

When I graduated from The School of Fashion Design in Boston, in the late 1970s, I interviewed for a job with Aaron Feuerstein. I recall asking about working hours. He talked for awhile and then said on Friday they close early for the Sabbath depending upon sunset. It was always early enough so he could go to worship at his temple. I had a hard decision, choosing between working for this very nice guy and another position working for a more high fashion outfit. I went with that, but it didn't work out so well. Aaron had integrity and his Polartec has the same. ------ Sometimes she didn't always follow the recipe. Pfonzie- my honey Pfaff Creative Performance, Bernina 930 and 830, Evolution serger.

They sell outdoor fabrics including fleece in 100, 200 and 300 weights. I use 300 weight for parkas/jackets. It's easy to sew with, washes/dries up even nicer and seriously wears really well. They do have sales, but it is still expensive. I buy their fabrics for any outdoor garments/gear, though, because it lasts forever - great quality!

I have been checking for months at Mill Direct and Seattle Fabrics and also Pico Textiles looking for affordable Polartec. It runs at least $11 per yard or more and the colors available are pretty limited ...haven't seen any sales yet. Pico doesn't seem to have any authentic Polartec. I was thrilled to find Denver Fabrics had it in two soft colors for $7 per yard. I thought that was pretty reasonable. They have a great pre-cut yardage 'blanket' sale a couple of times a year--if I remember correctly they are buy one get one free. My biggest concern with their web site is the color representations are way off. I was disapppointed in the colors I received. I bought The Swatch Pack which includes the "All Time Favorites" colors-- to find out what their different products were like. The color of their sale blankets were different than the 'classics', so the sample packets didn't help. Do let us know if you find anyother source. Polortec really is delicious stuff!
