Some of you may recall that I had gotten a Bernina 450 that I immediately bonded with in the store. Once getting it home, I felt kinda guilty of all the $ I spent on it, such that I couldn't get the same enjoyment worked up about it anymore. Eventually, I sold it and kept my vintage Morse, obtained a SailRite for heavy, heavy stuff. Just the other day I pulled out a purse I made on that Bernina using its decorative stitches, and I was so struck by the fabulous stitches. Now I declare that I MUST, MUST, MUST save up for another one. I don't want the embroidery module just yet, but would like the BSR. Any ideas of how I might could sew to add to my income to buy this baby again? Right now, I'm strung tight trying to help my daughter do her college thing, and I really don't want to finance one, though I might consider it. Also want to sell the SailRite and get a straight stitcher tough Juki TL98Q or such for my bag work.

Suggestions please..... Crying real tears over my loss.

Unfortunately the aurora series is said to be dicontinued. The new 5 series are replacing it. The 580e bernina is the only machine with embroidery capability in the 5 series (which really replacing the 450 you once owned) It is an awesome machine from what I've been reading. The technology is far superior to lol.
I do suggest however to maybe wait until specials are on because as you know such machines cost mega $$$.
Or you can wait for the 7 series and browse through those or you can get an artista sewing machine as they are also being discontinued so close out prices are outrageously good.

Well my first suggestion is to call your dealer to see what they have left of the machines that are being phased out, such as the 400 and 600 series, and the 730.
Since you sew bags, I would suggest trying to sell those bags, as long as they are not being made from commercial patterns which don't allow that. Etsy, eBay, church fairs, rent a booth at a flea market?
I'm teaching classes at Joann's to raise some money. However, I haven't started yet, and I'm not sure it'll be worth it.
I have to say though, that aside from alterations, most people I know don't make a lot of money trying to sew for money.
Consider joining the forum on sewing businesses here on PR. They may be full of ideas. Best of luck!! I'd hate to see you without your beloved machine!

The 450 was not discontinued. It is in the current line up.

That's what I saw on the USA sight, that it would still be available. I did email the company to make sure, but it will be a while before a reply, I'm sure.

Pretty difficult to trade hours sewing for $$. I wouldn't even attempt it.

Instead, consider teaching what you know. If there are certain items that you've had people go nuts over... the $$ is in teaching them how to do it themselves.

Maybe consider a used machine?

No advice on earning by sewing, as money flows the opposite direction for me when I comes to sewing, lol. I would definitely pay for a sewing tutor, though.

I have seen lots of these on the resale market though.. mostly I bet people selling to trade up to the newer series. There are some listed on sewitsforsale. and I have even seen a couple here in our PR classifieds..
I would not wait too long though.. since it has been discontinued.. once that happens and people are thru trading up.. they may become more scarce except perhaps ebay. .which is not my preferred place to buy really good machines. This model was so well liked I imagine most are planning on keeping theirs for quite some time..

I know people like their Berninas, however might it be possible for you to bond with something else less expensive and more easily affordable? There are a lot of machines out there that do nice dec stitches etc. I'm am kind of the mind that thinks if you have to put it on credit unless a major appliance or health related*, etc then you don't need it. Unless you going to pay it off in that same month.

*Loophole mental health concerns lol
