Sad about quilt's fate Being used in a bunny crate

She went to Good Will to find some cheap blankets. For $10.00 each she got some quilts, and they are lovely. One was a really fun dinosaur applique design and it was HAND QUILTED. It looked like it hadn't been used. I feel sad because I know somebody took the time and effort to choose a design and fabrics and then hand quilt it. My daughter was so excited about her bunny setup that I couldn't really put a damper on it. I thought people here would understand. Susan

Maybe the person who made it decided they hated it and didn't want to give it to anybody (happens to the best of us!), or the recipient died before they could use it and their family members were too sad to keep it. We don't know that it was casually tossed into a Goodwill box so I'd like to think there was a better reason for it ending up there.

When I give a quilt as a gift, I always tell them, when they are done with it, to pass it on to someone that will use it. That is all I care, is that someone makes use of it. Maybe you could save it from the bunny, and if it is indeed in good shape, pay it forward to someone in need. That always feels good. ------ Mare

Date: 9/6/12 8:10 AM Being a quilter and having some experience with hand quilting and not wanting to do it because of the time involved, I can easily see why you feel sad. It is a sad thing to see a much loved quilt show up at Goodwill, but maybe the family who owned it had to move and had no place for it and Goodwill was the only place it could go to, besides the local landfill. The truth is, your daughter loves it, even if it's for her bunny. I was involved in getting a group of women to make cage comforters for our local animal shelter. Some of these were downright beautiful; finely made with beautiful fabrics and designs. The thoughts that went into making them were loving thoughts for the animals during the moments they were made, with no concern what would happen thereafter. And maybe too, the one who made this quilt also felt the same way--you don't know. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. The key is to respect and live within Her."
