I am quite certain that the Babylock Elizabeth is the correct machine for me.
The problem is that I am wondering whether the local Babylock dealer is offering a competitive price.
WHY CAN'T ONE CHECK THE PRICE OF THESE MACHINES ONLINE?
Ive seen quotes of $600-700 for the Elizabeth on this board and my local dealer wants $999!!!!
Has anyone out there purchased an Elizabeth lately?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

If a dealer wants to keep his franchise, he does not publish his prices. They do have some wiggle room when pricing.

Their price depends on overhead as well as their cost for current machines + shipping.

Prices for everything has risen quite a bit, in case you have not noticed.

I hear you! Wish prices were simply set and that was it period! Yes deals an be had...if one has a plethora of dealers to choose from.

Are the any other BL dealers close enough for you to get to, that may have a better price?

Otherwise, you really have to decide which machine is the one for you, and just go for it. Someone is always going to get a better price somewhere. And someone is going to pay even more.

I just suck it up and buy the machine I want...I get deals on other things and figuree it all balances out over time.

Thanks everyone! I did check with dealer that is about 90 miles away and Elizabeth was about 130 less, but I guess I should just bite the bullet and buy from local dealer who was extremely helpful explaining the different models. Their future help would be well worth the difference in cost.
Thanks so much!

Print out the bits on PR showing the E at lower prices, and take with you to the dealer...ask if they can toss in some notions (needles, threads) and/or an extra foot or two.

That helpful dealer is probably going to be worth the higher machine price. However a dealer only 90 miles away isn't too terribly far away (at least, not where I'm concerned), so maybe you can mention that. Your local dealer may work something to make sure you buy from them rather than making your purchase elsewhere. It's worth a try.

I'm proof that men really will ask for directions :-D
Bernina 240 & 130, Pfaff 1222E & 2020, Singer 503, Janome 3434D, closet way too full of spandex and I think there is a puppy somewhere in this mess.

I was really disappointed to find out Babylock can't even give prices over the phone! I understand not having them online, but to make me drive 50 miles just to find out if a machine is even in my price range pisses me off.

All the other dealers in the area (Janome, Brother, Bernina, Viking) will give a quote over the phone.

My BL dealer gives prices over the phone. It could be because they know me, but I remember they gave me the Evolve price over the phone and that was my first contact with them. I've also phoned other BL dealers in my area and have gotten prices over the phone, so could be just some dealers refuse to do so. Annoying!

That's interesting.

I caught the woman right as she was coming back from something, so she said the papers were in the car, could I call back? And then she said "Oh, I can just run out there and give you the price"

And then as she carried the phone into the car, she goes "Oh my goodness, what am I thinking- we aren't allowed to give prices over the phone"

She was the owner, so I can't imagine who would disallow it if it wasn't Babylock.
