I love this fabric on this dress at Neiman Marcus (see pic below)
Here is a link to the dress on the website. It is described as "nylon polyester", but that is kind of vague. It sort of looks like a shiny shantung. Does anyone know what type of fabric it is? Thanks.

Brocade is very big this season and while this says it's printed, brocade would work very well for it. Mood has some a large selection online.

I have seen fabric like this before, and it is similar to a satin finish, but I do not like it as there are static issues, and that is probably why they use silk lining.

Here is the same fabric on another Lela Rose dress. Net-a-Porter.com provided a better description: it's a multi-colored floral-print taffeta that is 84% nylon, 16% polyester; lining: 100% silk. Here is some similar at Mood.com here and here. Pretty pricey, but gorgeous! So you could see why a synthetic designer dress would cost that much.

Kind of looks like Simplicity 1873.

If you're going for a more casual dress, would cotten sateen work? I'm not sure what that's like, exactly, but does it have a bit of a sheen to it?

As mention by couturemom, I agree with cotten sateen. I think this would be best for any casual dress.
