Date: 9/9/12 8:20 PM My Viking 630 apparently needs a new needle bar frame. Also, it probably needs a new electronic part since the needle down function doesn't work anymore. The needle bar frame repair ALONE will cost $300, however, neither my repair shop nor I can find the part.
Supposing the part is eventually found, and I completely have this machine repaired, I could buy a brand new machine (or at least new to me). I love this machine, but don't want to throw money away on a machine that might have other breakdowns when I can't find the parts. I can't even find another complete machine to cannibalize.
Do I give up on my machine, hold out and hope parts will turn up, or find something new? I can't afford more than about $750, but there are some pretty good machines in that price range. |

Date: 9/9/12 10:01 PM For now, I'd suggest putting out feelers for the part you need for the Viking while buying a replacement, unless you need the money provided by the trade-in. If the parts eventually turn up, as from a donor parts machine or the like, then you can have the repair done and bring the 630 back to life. As you say, you can get a nice machine for the cost of repairing the Viking. |
