Have you ever checked a SM on a flight? Exchange tips and strategies for flying with yiur machine

The machine case was "Nailed Shut" clear packing tape makind sure nothing inside was loose or could move about with themachine itself. It was then wrapped with bubble wrap and again secure with clear packing tape to coushion the machine. I made arrows of bricht duct tape following the shape with a marker and writting "FRAGILE" "THIS SIDE UP" a any given place. It arrivedc in Boston unharmed. Good luck, you then have the task of unpackinh it!! ------ "Dr. Doodle"

If so, how would I grab it off the carousel? Did you form some kind of handle for it from the duct tape? ------ Let's just say all modern sms are well represented in my studio.

Both times they came in the manufacturrer's original box. She has a nyulon webbed strap with a padded handle that she waraps on the box for carrying. And once I had to bring my machine up to Dallas for repair ( I won't trust the repair shoppes here with a computerized machine) We found a computer box, and lots of Styrofoam . My husband re-cut the blocks of foam from computer size to sewing machine size and it worked perfectly. Secure all loose parts, and make a tight fit in the box for the Styrofoam and the machine. Remember, like computers they are shippe to the dealers in Styrofoam. On my return trip from the repair trip, the dealer gave me a box. You can contact dealers they do not save all the boxes the machines come it, they can find one for you. ------ Baja Susana www.susansewsdaily.blogspot.com Sewing on the beach, what could be better?

When this topic came up, my teeth clenched! My first wrenching thought was having the TSA tearing the box apart and repacking it. I have traveled for what I do - and I carry **just** a desk-type magnifying lamp in my suitcase. That thing has never failed to cause my suitcase to be pulled aside and searched - they leave an inspection slip inside your suitcase to let you know they rummaged through it... as if you couldn't tell! I guess if this were me... I would consider the Pelican Case (or something like it) and I would use a TSA compliant lock on it. (they have universal keys that can be opened by inspectors) I would definitely make it easy for them to inspect and re-pack. Using that type of foam, etc would make that easy. Another thing I would consider doing... if I only needed to do this a couple of times... would be to use the factory box - but I would make a clear vinyl zippered case to go around the factory box. I would also use some type of strap closure to go around the box instead of taping it - because inspectors would rip that tape up and re-tape. That could wreck the box, I would imagine. I would just think these things would be begging for inspection... and I'd prepare for it. -- Edited on 9/10/12 10:52 AM -- ------ nightowlsally.com On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel.
