I bought a new Viking 835 a month ago. I've taken it back to the shop twice due to thread bunching up on the bottom of my sewing. They said it's a threading issue both times. Once I rethread it in the shop it sews fine. But get it home and I have trouble again. I know how to thread the machine. And at times it makes a loud noise then will turn quiet. I'm so frustrated. I've had a Viking years ago with good luck. My last machine was a Janome. Any suggestions?

Is your foot up on the machine when you thread it? This allows the thread to "sit" properly in the tensionn discs.

You can put the foot down to the use the needle threader to thread your needle but the pressure foot has to be up for the top thread to click into the tension disks. If the thread misses the take up lever you hear a loud noise within the first couple stitches. I've worked with many machines over the years. Is the foot down recommended in your instruction book or by the dealer?

OK, I'll try that. It does say that in the manual. but I know the instructor told me down. Now I'm starting to doubt myself. Hopefully this will be the end of the trouble. Thank you for your input.

On my machines I must have the foot UP when threading it through the various points. I can put the foot down at the very end when I am using the needle threader. I was told this by 2 dealers and a teacher in a class again this past weekend. Hope this helps.

I have a Viking Sapphire 830. Had the same problem. Brought it back to the dealer twice and was told I wasn't threading it properly. I was ready to trade it in. It turns out that the Sapphire has had some problems with the thread coming off of the take up lever. It is a defect with the machine. I found this out after searching online for answers. I brought it back to the dealer and they put a clip on the take up lever to hold the thread in place. (at no charge) There haven't been any problems since. That was a couple of years ago. Maybe this is the problem you are having?

That is exactly the same problem I'm having. How did you finally get them to put the clip on? How long ago did this happen?
I was also told not to use thread I've purchased from connecting threads.
Thank you for this info. I will certainly suggest this if the problem continues.

I got them to put the clip on by going into the dealer and telling them that I heard that there was a defect with the machine. (not, how I was threading the machine wrong etc.) They agreed to fix it, but I'm not so sure that they would have agreed to do it had I not told them that I was aware of the defect in the Sapphire take up lever design. This was the third time that I had been to the dealer with the same problem. So frustrating. This was maybe 2 years ago. I haven't had any more issues. It sounds like your machine is having the same problem. I would go to the dealer and let them know about about the clip. They can order it. Good luck! I hope they fix it for you.
