Date: 9/11/12 2:08 PM I know. I know. Sewing isn't a money saving hobby. But my boys need comfy pants and hoddies and I really thought I could crank some items out for them on the cheap. But, once you add it all up, it seems like a lot of cash to plunk down.
So, from Fashion Fabric Club, for $56, I got shipping, 6 spools of thread and 8 1/2 yards of sweatshirt fleece in four different colors. This should make each boy and me a hoodie plus two pairs of comfy pants for each kid. Of course, I still need elastic and three zippers.
Sewing for Toddlers was $12 long, long ago.
Deal, or no deal?

Compared to Mall prices and you probably saved enough for a babysitter and special night out, including dinner at a restaurant with real linen, silver and crystal!

Date: 9/11/12 2:59 PM I think it's a deal. Old Navy has toddler boys sweatshirts for 15 and pants for 10. You are making three hoodies and four pants, right? and one of those hoodies for you? That adds up to at least 85 plus you'll have extra fabric possibly for hat, gloves, accents. And extra thread and elastics likely.
And the quality you make will likely be better than store bought! |

thrift stores too. Kids stuff can be cut out of XL shirts etc. |

It sounds like a good deal for what you get. You could go to Walmart and probably get it for less (or about the same if you threw in some bags of socks) but if you make them, you get the joy of sewing and the boys would have some things made by you. I don't know what age your boys are but my kids always liked wearing things I made them. So you wanted to be enabled  |

Date: 9/11/12 9:15 PM If you're making 8 total garments (I'm guessing you have 2 boys), that's currently $8 for each garment. Even if you add in zippers and elastic, that's prolly $9-$10 per piece. I think that's a great buy! Considering if you paid $10 a piece for those items from a shop they would probably fall apart in less than a month. With the quality of what you're making, they will last a long time! Plus you can repair them easily if they rip or something.
I think it's a good deal! Plus it's fun :-) ------
