I'm finding so many patterns are calling for lining. If I wear a full slip in place of lining, will that work? Also, I would probably use a knit for the above dress.

Well, if you don't line it, you'll have to find new ways to finish the neckline, armholes, etc.

That is not designed for a knit. You might get by with a stable knit but not something really stretchy. You would need to finish the neck and sleeves somehow if you made the sleeveless. It could be done easily enough with bindings or making facings. A full slip will work but you will probably have to make one. They are hard to find in RTW. There were several threads that discussed slips a few months back.

Simplicity 1755 View B calls for a lining in the bodice, too, but I ain't havin' it!
It has a zipper in the back, so I got rid of the keyhole in the front.
I'll hem the sleeves, and the collar will finish the neckline.
