I picked up a Pfaff 1209 at the local Goodwill some 10-12 months ago. It needed a bobbin case and was missing a couple of feet, but was in great cosmetic condition. I replaced the foot controller with an electronic one, as the original had a break in the winding somewhere, a common problem.

After chiseling out a lot of hardened white lithium grease (criminy, I hate that stuff), removing of a bunch of thread piled up in the hook and lots of dust and lint, and some strategically placed drops of Tri-flow, it's back in action.

I have to admit it: I'm more impressed than I thought I would be. The stitches are really nice, and it's very quiet. And, well, the price was right at $15. I may have a hard time parting with this one.

For $15 you got a great machine.
I have one that I reviewed here that I bought new back in the 70's. Don't use it much anymore but I keep it in a tote to use when I go for classes. Mine has never been serviced and I REALLY need to take it in....it probably has old grease that needs removing.
This machine really does a lot for its age and what it cost.

Have never regretted purchasing my 1229. I have never had any problems with it, nor any of the fabric handling issues I read so much about. After speaking to my original dealer I have found that the purple Pfaff that folks are so excited about has the same feed (dog) technology as the 1200 series. Can't imagine why they would ever step away from something so fantastic.

Just got a new washing machine, a reminder of how happy I would be to step back to simple and reliable long last superiority. Glad you've got your hands on such a great machine. Am sure you can now understand what it would have been like to have sewn on something like that for 29 years.

Enjoy!

In looking around, I see a number of machines labeled "Pfaff 1209 Compact", while mine is a Pfaff 1209 Synchromatic. Mine has a maroon-colored (or some dark shade of violet) dial, rather than the brown/chrome scheme I see on photos of the compact.

Anyone know what the difference, if any, is?
