Date: 9/12/12 2:36 PM While I'm here in Germany I picked up a copy of the September German Burda. I received my US version so I decided to compare the two. Both issues contain the same patterns, but there are some differences in the rest of the magazine. If you're interested to see how they differ, I made a youtube video (posted on my blog also) where I go through the magazines.

Date: 9/12/12 3:26 PM The magazine stand where I buy burda actually had the German version there the last time I went to buy it. I thought they probably got it in error. I flicked through it quickly but didn't notice all that extra content. Maybe some time in the future I will buy it and try to brush up my German!

Nice comparison, thank you for this video. I think every language version has a different editor. I buy the French version and it has a few of the extra articles from the German version but not everything. But it doesn't even have the All At Glance pictures. |

Date: 9/12/12 4:23 PM I love that way they format the patterns and pattern instructions, that separate mini-mag is a great idea. Thanks for taking the time to do this! |

Date: 9/12/12 4:33 PM The current German edition reminds me of Burda International, which also included the patterns/directions at the back like that. The difference was that Burda International had different patterns from the regular Burda World of Fashion magazine, and the main part of the magazine was a lot like Vogue. Gosh, I really liked BI, but of course they discontinued it as soon as I found it out LOL |

You're right, I should have referred to it as an English language version. I guess I assumed, wrongly, that it's a US version since it's the one we get as subscribers in the US. And now that I look at it, it shows a price in British pounds on the cover, so it's the same issue distributed there and other places where English is spoken or that version is requested.
I'm embarrassed to have been so US-centric when it comes to language. -- Edited on 9/12/12 4:38 PM -- ------ Lori (visit my blog at: http://monkeyroom.blogspot.com) |

Date: 9/13/12 1:41 AM Thanks for taking the time to make the video and address this.
Two things:
1. Sometimes the German magazines (Burday Easy Fashion for certain), show a couple styles and provide a code for you to download and print the pattern at the Burda website.
2. You can subscribe to the German version also at GLP. Some years I get the German, some years the English. I prefer the German edition for the separate booklet and the articles and recipes, but if I decide to sell them, I've found limited interest on PR for them - even though everyone says they can't make heads or tails out of the English instructions, anyway :-) ------ susi |

The German instructions are useless too, so it doesn't surprise that bad instructions do not get better in translation. I never understand what part they are referring to and I'm fluent in German. |

Date: 9/13/12 5:03 AM For years I collected the Burda magazines and used to purchase Polish version because it cost several dollars less a month than English copy. When they switched the printed format to the overly crowded pattern sheets I stopped getting them. ------ Janome10001, Babylock ESG3, Brother ULT 2001, White 634D serger, Pfaff 1472, Singer featherweight, Singer 14T957Dc, Bernina FunLock 009DCC coverlock, Brother PQ1500S, Janome CP900. |
