A second thought is Old Pot Liquor -- in my area of the south, pot liquor is the liquid left after boiling cabbage. Again, not something I'd want to be identified with!!! A pot licker is a dog. Best pre-wash job I can get at my house on the dishes. My OH is known to greet male friends with, "How are you, you old pot licker?" It's a term of affection and I thought it might make a neat personalized license plate for him. Now of course I'm thinking not. I do admit, I was worried about the possible drug (pot) and alcohol connotations. Especially since I have only 8 spaces to work with and my first choices that spell it out better are taken. One of the definitions I found was "mongrel dog" and I'm guessing that's what the person meant, referring to himself (herself??) in a joking sort of way. But it can also mean someone who is down and out and in really rough shape, so it's not something I'd stick on a license place. Also plate lucks, cup lucks, floor lucks (house specialty), and any other edible luck, and even some not so edible (for humans).
