Date: 9/17/12 3:44 PM Hi all! I've had some thread issues with the Pfaff select 3.0 I've started to use recently - one of them being the bobbin thread somehow getting caught in the gears. The thread is bunching - see picture - but not like a bird's nest... I opened the bobbin case mid-way through a bunch crisis and apparently the thread was repeatedly caught in the gear... or namely around the bobbin... Has anyone had the same experience with this model - or another? Sheesh, it had been working just fine for two weeks now, was working perfectly two nights ago. I'll make a new bobbin in the meantime I guess.
Edit: Also, yes, I have bad quality thread. But I'd like to discard any other (more serious) issue before I break the machine... -- Edited on 9/17/12 3:45 PM -- |

Date: 9/17/12 6:06 PM I get that with my Necchi sometimes. This is what I do & it usually works:
1. Take out the top thread and completely rethread the machine.
2. Remove the needle plate and clean out lint.
3. Disassemble the bobbin race and clean out lint, put it back together.
Also, when you start sewing, hold onto the threads.
Beyond that, I am no help. This usually fixes my problems. ------ Pfaff 138-6

Date: 9/17/12 6:31 PM Are you using black thread? If so, it is known to cause problems with many machines. The dye process required can result in brittle thread that plays "heck" with the top tensioner. |

1 member likes this. Date: 9/17/12 6:50 PM Double check to make sure the bobbin case gives you a good clear "click" when you put it in the shuttle race. I had problems with my Select 3 until someone told me to do that. ------ Joe in New Albany, iN |

Date: 9/18/12 11:22 PM I'm guessing you are using plastic bobbins? Check to make sure the bobbin isn't faulty, such as a small nick or a micro crack/split etc. Also, make sure the bobbin is correct for your machine. I mistakenly mixed two brands of bobbins in my bobbin box for my Viking and it took a bit of sleuthing on my part before I discovered my error. The bobbins looked so much alike but some were the tiniest bit smaller and curved at the edge, therefore they wouldn't allow the stitches to form properly.
And my mantra: right needle, right thread, right stitch for the project you are working on at the time. One size does not fit all when it comes to the three R's of sewing!
Good luck! -- Edited on 9/18/12 11:23 PM -- ------ Happy Seams to you....until we meet again!
