Date: 9/20/12 5:54 PM Hello,
I have a Singer 500A sewing machine and would like to get a buttonholer for it. Can anyone tell me the Singer part number for this? I plan on checking ebay for it but need that part number. Thank you and blessings.

Date: 9/20/12 6:32 PM professional singer buttonholer #381116 slant needle or pink clamshell box part number 489500 or 489501. Asked a friend with a 500A ------ Impossible you say? Nothing is impossible when you work for the circus!

Date: 9/20/12 7:45 PM ****Perhaps there's a Singer buttonholer expert here who can decipher these part numbers. These 3 buttonholes seem to be functionally the same.
I believe a Singer Professional buttonholer may also work. I've found three different part numbers for slant needle professional buttonholers: 102577 or 121869 or 102880. (I can see that there are two different styles of cases on the buttonholers, but they otherwise seem identical.)
Here's a copy of the manual (opens a PDF); on page 2, it shows two different types of feed cover plates: one General Purpose, and one specifically for Touch and Sew. Can you tell if the Touch and Sew feed plate cover would fit the 500a? [I believe the manual is for both the slant needle and the straight needle (non-slant) version of this buttonholer, therefore, each buttonholer would come with only one feed cover plate, but the same manual.]
These are readily available on eBay and Etsy. Of course, it helps if they show a PICTURE of the throat plate cover.
Note that there is also a straight needle (non-slant needle) version of this buttonholer, which is rather scarce. Just the same, double-check any online listing to be sure you are getting the slant needle version. Also note, there are also versions (with yet different part numbers) that have boxes stating that the buttonholer is specifically for Touch and Sew models.
Or, just go with the previous recommendation.
Ah, HA! Some information about throat plates by throat plate cover part number, but not Buttonholer number.

This became much more complicated than I thought it would be, once I started researching, and now I suspect this is not helpful at all.
