Date: 9/21/12 10:17 PM Hi All,
I have a feather pillow and the material is failing in too many places to repair.
What kind of material should I use to make a new pillow?
Many thanx,

Date: 9/21/12 11:05 PM You need a fabric that is tightly woven, so the feathers won't poke out.
There are nylon and cotton fabrics that are'downproof' The cottons are sometimes called ticking. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 9/22/12 10:28 AM You can usually find feather and down-proof fabric in the utility fabric section of fabric stores. Failing that, look in dept. stores for pillow protectors that are feather and down-proof. You can either just use those with the zipper, or sew it slightly smaller and cut off the zipper. Usually, by the time the pillow fabric is that work, the feathers are somewhat crushed and worn, too, so a smaller pillow may actually end up being the height you want.
When I made buckwheat hull pillows, I used the protectors, and left the zipper so we could adjust the filling. For the smaller pillow I wanted, I just shortened the protector from the other end so I still had the zipper. ------ Bernina: 910, 930, 180, 440; Bernette 004D serger
