Date: 9/23/12 6:10 PM I just saw Sewingengineer's review of a Marfy dress pattern. I've always ignored Marfy patterns because 1) I had no idea where to buy them and two 2) I think they don't come with any sewing instructions?
Now I have a vague memory that the patterns can be purchased on one of the Big 4 pattern sites. Is that true? Do they have instructions? Does anyone know?
Thanks

Date: 9/24/12 12:06 PM You can buy Marfy at the Club BMV (clubbmv.com) website. I haven't tried them either, but I have heard good things about them. |

Date: 9/24/12 2:36 PM You can also buy them via McCalls patterns online. They do not have ANY instructions. There are some markings on the patterns, so parts that are supposed to match up will have the same letter, but that is about it. No layout suggestions; no extra pattern pieces for facings or lining. Also--the pattern pieces do not include seams.
I have sewn a few--you want to keep a printout of the drawing of the outfit so you can refer to it as you sew. I would not recommend them for beginner sewists. I have been sewing for many years, but still found that I had to carefully think through my plan of action. That being said, I was thrilled with how wonderfully the pieces all fit together and how nicely shaped the outfit was. |

Date: 9/24/12 10:37 PM I bought a couple Marfy top patterns last year to check them out. I've been on the lookout for the perfect fabric for each. I was surprised...the patterns come packaged very small...not the size of the pattern envelopes we are used to. Both of mine came in an regular letter-sized envelope.
I bought easy ones so I don't anticipate much trouble. I purchased them on BMV. I think members now get a discount on them...15% off. |
