Quilting in the hoop?
Does anyone use their machine for this?

I like the idea of quilting in the hoop -- I love the idea of having patterns quilted for me. Im just learning about this method.

Do the folks with embroidery machines have thoughts on what brands have gone out in front with this type of process?

It seems like this would be a great way to have very high quality quilting done w/o using a computerised long arm.

Anyhow -- Im just getting into thinking about it -- all thoughts and brand knowlege is welcome --

It seems this really is a machine question and not a quilt section question --

I have wondered about this. I have a 5x7 hoop, so for me, the most i could hope for is a 5x5 motif in the middle of a 6 or 7" square block. Most of the designs i see that are intended for this purpose are square designs. That seems like a lot of hooping and unhooping and marking and futzing across 40-60 blocks and these machines don't typically have wide harps to fit the bulky quilt under. You wouldn't get much range so no sprawling, airy designs. Well, i guess i've not been encouraged to try it for those reasons and also i've not seen it done so i'm interested in hearing what others have to say also.

So far ... I watched some videos from Janome - some from VSM and some from Brother .. I have not got to Bernina yet -- Its interesting ...

Its a very brand new idea to me -- IDK yet if its possible .. but, i know the empty blocks on the irish chain Im doing would look great with stuff inside them -- stuff that I cant do with FMQ!

I have done it on an older Janome with a standard embroidery hoop for FMQ, it works great!

I saw some samples of Bernina quilted blocks at my dealer the last time I was there. They were beautiful. I also saw some samples of Sashiko quilted blocks too.

Is there more info online about the product? I dont really know the right words to use to find more about this kind of stuff --

Do you know if the 580 and 780 can do that kind of work -- I really know nothing.

This is one of the major reasons I got the embroidery unit for the Creative Performance, but I haven't tried it yet. Doing anything with the embroidery unit makes me nervous because I haven't had my class on that part of the machine yet. I've messed around with some little things, but for some reason I find the idea of quilting with the embroidery unit most intimidating. I'm looking forward to when I know more and can try out quilting in the hoop!

I think they can be done on both the 580 & 780. I am not sure about what embroidery software this comes under. I plan to visit my dealer tomorrow and will ask her. I am in the same boat as I have never done machine embroidery or owned a machine with the capacity... I am hoping that will change.

FabricTherapy... I think Shashiko can be done with a cordonet foot and fine cord

I love so much of what can be done with embroidery -- but cant see myself USING much of that stuff -- like I prob will never wear embroiderd clothing anything -- its great for others -- but not for me -- so even though I love the way it looks ...

But, to quilt with it ...! Oh sistah!
