I am making a display for a store and have this cute pattern (birds) for 3 tea towels. I have been as careful as can be but forgot to change the bobbin thread to match the towel (white of all colors). I was almost done machine appliqueing when I discovered this.

My question is, does this really matter all that much? I was afraid to rip out because I would fray the pieces. I cannot believe I forgot this. The thread color is brown because I am making the owl first. So, the back of the towel has a brown owl outline.

I won't forget this when I do the trim. I doubt I will make this error again. The person I am making this for probably won't care because she is so laid back and nice. She will probably only care about the front.

If you make appliqued tea towels, do you even care that the bobbin thread matches the tea towel color (obviously for the back)? I just hate when I get stuck on a detail. Thanks for your replies in advance.

Most appliques are mostly outlines so I wouldn't worry about it. You are upset about it because you want it to be perfect but I don't think it would matter that much to your friend. You probably won't forget to change the thread the next time, though.

Valerie, think of it this way: if someone were to hand embroider a similar design, the stitches would be seen on the reverse side, so it's OK.

Thanks ladies.

Awesome GlB! I never even thought about that. I can tell her I did them by hand...j/k I wouldn't do that but if I don't say anything at all, how would she even know.

Plus I have buttons for eyes and I cannot use white to sew them on. Thanks so much because now I can complete it. Normally, when I get stuck I have to set it down to think about it.

Have a great day!
