Date: 9/29/12 12:48 PM My orig. post got lost in "bugs..." sorry. I need tables for a serger, 2nd SM, and coverstitch machine. Very tight budget. Will 4' plastic tables from Costco that seem sturdy work? I have used the machines setting on the dining room table but trying to get everything together in an unused bedroom. ------

Date: 9/29/12 12:56 PM I've used the Costco tables and they're great! The ones I saw recently were height-adjustable, too. I have a Gidget table also for my Bernina 550QE but it seems to vibrate quite a bit when sewing. I'm tempted to go pick up a couple more of the Costco tables since my husband swiped them for football tailgates. They aren't exactly pretty anymore  You may want to post in the Sewing Spaces Forum for more answers. |

Date: 9/29/12 11:08 PM I was just at my Costco 2 days ago. I saw the folding tables, but the ones I'm holding out for are the ones that are also height adjustable - these weren't. These also had the funky braces that come down at an angle from the underside of the table down to halfway down the leg.
The height-adjustable ones, as I've heard, don't have that brace getting in the way - so you can also put some stacking Sterilite or Rubbermaid type drawers/organizer containers under it.
It's my understanding that the adjustable height ones are at Sam's, not Costco.
I've also heard they're only about $30 or so. :)

Date: 9/30/12 0:17 AM A big thanks everyone. I don't recall the Costco tables being height adjustable, so I will check out Sam's before I buy. This looks like an easier (and less expensive) plan than buying a top and supporting it on file cabinets, which was another suggestion I came upon.

Date: 9/30/12 6:01 AM If you cruise pinterest for "sewing room" long enough, you'll find one gal's sewing studio that she pulled together with all sorts of odd furniture.
One particular sewing desk she created was done with two nightstands that she scored off of Craigslist (or something similar). Then a cheapie door was used as the top, I think. This was sooo much cuter than file cabinets... and most nightstands have at least one shallow drawer.
If you find the pics of the sewing room where all of the furniture (for the most part, IIRC) is an espresso brown - that might be hers.

Date: 9/30/12 8:39 AM The tables from Costco might work but I think they might not be sturdy enough. I have a similar one that I bought from Walmart to use as a cutting table-it works great for that. Do you need to put things away? If you had space, you can probably find an old desk at a thrift store for much less than one of those tables. I use an old desk-it is huge so I have my sewing machine and serger on it. It is very sturdy and I don't have to worry about it wobbling when I sew fast. |

The only way I could find a table that low, was to use the adjustable screw on legs from Ikea.
I made out of their table top, 48" wide and I made another out of half of a bifold door and it's 7 ft long. My sewing room has 2 machines 2 sergers and a press on those tables.
