Sewing Machine Recommendations?

I have always had a roommate or a friend that let me use their sewing machine, but I think it is time that I get my own. Is there a good sewing machine for under $200 that can handle thick fabrics like denim? All the machines I have borrowed struggle whenever I try to make a pair of pants. I hear the older Singer and Pfaff machines are amazing when it comes to that, but what if it breaks? How expensive would parts be? I also understand that Brother and Juki are good brands, but I dont need 60 different stitches. Is there maybe a modern, simple tough machine within my budget?

It also has a pressure adjustment for the presser foot which makes sewing a variety of fabrics; from sheer to thick denim or duck very easy to do. One of the first thing I did was hem a pair of jeans and the machine ran smoothly over the thick seams. Always match the needle type and size to the fabric type and you should not have any issues. I got my 1057 for around $80 during coupon day at my local Meijer store. This machine usually sells for around $100. You can see more about this machine here - Singer Website I have never had to replace parts on new machines. Old machine, some things do wear out and have to be replaced. Replacement parts? They are fast and have some modern features without lots of decorative stitches, but they do have regular and stretch stitches. The 4423 even has a one step buttonhole. I have already looked at those machines on amazon and I was sceptical because of some of the reviews. I guess I should stop finding excuses and just buy a machine!

I do not know how much it would cost in your area for parts & such as all sewing machine guys charge different rates depending on where you live & what the sm needs.
