Can anyone tell me a cutwork needle kit that is compatable with the Brother 2800d model.

Both the Pfaff and Viking Inspira cutwork kts can be used with any embroidery machine that allows you to sew without thread in the upper tension (some machines don't). If you have a thread sensor, you will need to turn it off.

Otherwise, you're good to go.

Oh, and you'll need to be able to convert the designs to Brother PES.

Brother 2800D doesn't have the ability to turn off the thread sensor, but you can work around it. Thread it as far as you can, and just hold the thread in your hand with a little tension to trick the machine. That is, hold the end and the part coming off the spool so you can tug slightly.

You really need to check with your dealer about your machine,, AND the designs,, when this kit first came out,, it wasn't something that just any designs could be used with,, the designs had to be programmed (software issue) to use these needles...

And only designs that has this logo.. (see the pink circles?) could be used... when you use these particular designs, the EM literally tells you what needle to use,, you don't use all of them with all designs,, I seen a demo on them when it first came out, and it was neat,, I have the kit and several designs to use it with,( including this set) just haven't gotten around to it yet,,

I have never done cutwork, but I do know Anitagoodesign has several collections for it. I assume they will work on any machine.

Talk with your Brother dealer regarding the use of cutting needles in your EM.

In the meantime, have you tried this tutorial? You will have to manually cut away the fabric.

Free project. This is a reputable magazine.

Brother's in the process of releasing a cutwork kit and software upgrade for the PR1000/PR650 and it will also work with the Brother Quattro. The cutwork needles are 4 needles with different angled blades on them. This is what makes the machine cut the fabric. The designs have to be specifically programmed for cutwork and this will show up as separate color changes on the machine. I have used the cutwork needles on the Janome 10001, the set that was included with Artistic suite. I also got a set of the inspira needles but haven't had the time to test in a Brother embroidery machine. I looked at the Annita Designs and it's not stated that they include the cutwork commands.

When working with cutwork desings after the needle commonds are programmed it's important the the design isn't rotated or resized at all.

Thanks for all the replies and Thanks for the tip on holding the thread with a little tension. I will try this and see if my Brother 2800D still keeps going without the warning page coming up @ thread breakage. I already called the dealer about the thread sensor and am not able to turn off on my machine.

Do the "cutting" needles create a lot of dust/lint that could fall into the bobbin case?
