Date: 10/2/12 2:30 PM hello. i'm new to using patterns and am working on Simplicity 2447. My question is about the 'special cutting instructions'
The pattern says:
"If layout shows a piece extending past the fold, cut out all pieces except piece that extends. Open fabric to single thickness. Cut extending piece on Right side of fabric in position shown."
I cannot figure out what this means. If I'm going to fold out the pattern to finish the extended piece, am I not going to be cutting off a piece that was created in the fold? Is this all going to be one piece? I'm so confused :D
thanks for any insight!

Date: 10/2/12 3:13 PM Hi, Not sure which piece would be cut out like that...but then, I am only looking at the pattern and not the instructions. Be sure to lay out the pattern pieces on your fabric as directed. Go ahead and cut out all the pieces except that 'special' one. Then open the remaining fabic to the single thickness, pin the pattern piece on the single layer and cut that out. It will be all one piece then. Hope this helps & feel free to ask more questions if needed. Happy Sewing! |

Date: 10/2/12 3:15 PM Hi christina, That is a cute pattern. I am making up a similar one using a Butterick pattern. Here is a link for yours.
To cut out according to the directions given, you would cut every pattern piece with the fabric folded, EXCEPT the one showing extending off the layout. Take that pattern piece and lay it on the UNFOLDED fabric, making sure the RIGHT side of the fabric is facing up.
I will wait until everything else is cut out and then lay my fabric right side up, with a single layer, and cut the remaining piece. Alternatively, you can trim your yardage and set aside enough for the one pattern piece. Make sure you have the grain identified, and that any directional print is going the right way.
