Singer Quantum 9960 Automatic Needle Threader problem

But I cannot get the auto needle threader to work! I can see that something is coming through the needle eye the way it should but I do not understand how the thread is supposed to hook onto that and be pulled through. When I try to follow the manual instructions everything works the way it says except that the thread just laughs and does not go through. I am almost wondering if something is broken on it because I just do not see any way for the thread to grab onto the thingy that comes through the needle. Any help appreciated please!! I hate threading needles and this is one thing I was looking forward to. LOVE the thread cutter! And it makes such beautiful stitches and it is sooooo quiet! I don't have one of these so maybe someone who does can chime in. I have a Janome 6600. To get the threader to work I have to do a needle up/down and the threader has a little metal piece towards the back of the threader-the dealer showed me this or I probably would not have seen it-I never would have caught the thread in that little piece. I am wondering if it is something like that. Can you post a picture? How do you like it so far?

Get a magnifying glass and look at the configuration of the threader wire. There is a hook pin to catch the thread and pull it through. Lay a thick towel behind the machine so you can tip it back for a good look. If you cannot get it to work, call your Singer dealer and ask if they can take a look while you wait. That way you do not have to leave the machine and make two round trips to the dealer. -- Edited on 10/3/12 5:37 PM --

I was really starting to think there was a piece broken off, but apparently it is just not coming forward quite enough. I sort of pushed it from the back to make it come through the needle more and then it worked. It was coming through the eye but not enough apparently. That is NOT something I would want to do all the time though! I wonder why it might be doing that. Thanks Marie! I am really loving him so far. I just ordered a bunch of extra bobbins and needles for him so he will be all stocked up. I was also glad to discover that my two sergers both take the same needle. So I got some extras of those too. I had the same problem with my threader my husband fixed it and I haven't had any more trouble. The only thing I don't like so far is the odd basting stitch. I hope your problem is solved for good.

I figured it must be something simple. That's good that your serger and sm take the same needles. The fact that my Brother serger takes regular sewing machine needles was a plus for me. It is nice not to have to worry about different needles for different machines. Have fun playing, take some pictures and start a new thread to show it off. There are not many really good machines in this price range so I am sure many of us would like to know more about it!

Will do a review once I have used it for a while.
