I've been visiting my local Joanns and test driving their HV Topaz 20. They have a sale going on which brings the price to 1900 (although I've been looking at them for months and the sale has never ended), and they said they can give me $100 off the price if I buy their floor model.
I've read reviews about people talking with the dealer and possibly lowering the price or getting software thrown in. Is this true? Could I negotiate some software or an even lower price?
Also, do they accept trade-ins? Even a two year old basic singer? Looking to save money and every penny counts!

You'll have to ask them about the trade ins. Our Joann's Viking doesn't take them, nor do they throw in other stuff. I tested the Topaz 30, and I thought that it was a nice machine.

MOST dealers will take trade-ins and you can negotiate prices, but I don't think the Vikings in Joanns are independently owned like most dealers, so bargaining isn't very likely. But, it never hurts to ask!!!
Good luck!!

If there's a quilt show in your area, sometimes you can get better deals.
I got my Viking at a quilt show for show price that I'd never get in their Joann's.

The Viking section in some Joann stores are owned by local dealers, and in some stores they're owned by Viking.

You do not need to purchase the software from the dealer, nor do you have to purchase the Viking software.

See my Embroidery Software Buying Guide for more on this. Embroidery Software Buying Guide

Thank you! I really enjoyed your buying guide. I'm completely new to embroidery, and am trying to figure things out. I was wondering earlier if I could use other software, so you're article really helped. I was going to private message you and ask you a question about the software you have for sale on the website. Like you said, I don't want to buy a huge package that I will never need.

When your ready to spend, definitely ask! It is so worth it, to know if they might throw in one more thing

I purchased my viking this summer from a Joann's company store. The negotiations were the same to me as a traditional dealer store. Up front, their price was as good or a little better than the other dealer I went to. both were on sale and good prices. When I sat down ready to spend money that day, the manager called her "regional manager/boss" and they sweeten the deal a bit more. I knew I was getting a really fair and good price and went for it.

They offered 25 % discount on all accessories purchased that day, and give really good customer service, which was the most important to me. Nothing feels worse than buying something big, and the next time you show up you feel like your being ignored.

My foot pedal was squeaky and when I would used it with a lot of stops and starts it seemed to stick down in the on position now and then. My dealer immediately gave me a loaner pedal to test if that was the problem or to see if it was something in the machine itself. After working with the loaner, it definitely was fine with a different pedal, and I went back and she gave me a new pedal that day. They have been so helpful and honoring the quality they sell you on.

Not sure if this is the same at the regular dealers, but at the Joann's, You build points with all purchases and you get a nice credit for spending at the store with your earned points.

Just thought I would give you my experience. I hope your company store is as good too :)

Kerri
Thank you for sharing your experiences with the Joann Viking dealers. I teach sewing in Joanns and am often asked by beginners, what machine would I suggest. I'm suppose to point them to the bottom of the line Singers that Joanns carries, or the Vikings. We use Viking Emeralds in the classrooms. They are OK but I think are horribly over priced(even when given a discount on the classroom model). I hate to have anyone spend that much money on something they may not use, will also do my best to keep them away from the Singers. I have never heard any feedback on the service or deals given at our Joanns. I might go talk with the rep and see what type of service they offer with those high prices I would then be able to give my students more to go on.

Just a quick note about embroidery software. Wait a little while before purchasing! Especially if this is your first embroidery machine purchase.

You don't know for sure that you're going to really get into embroidery and for just some basic stuff you don't need software. If you really get into it and decide you need the customization that the software offers, then absolutely go for it, but I wouldn't lay out the $$$ unless necessary.

Just trying to save you a few hard-earned pennies! :-)

I almost bought a sapphire 875Q last night at Joanns but hesitated. The saleswoman was terrific, she really knew her Vikings. She didn't like the demo model, it was very old, so she opened a new box (then put it away for me in case I want it in the next few days). I could return the machine in the next 90 days if I want to. What stopped me was the machines are sent to a repair center in Michigan (Alma?) by UPS for servicing. They will give you a loaner machine. The saleswoman said to get a tune up every 2 years with daily use. I often got one yearly depending on usage when I had Vikings years ago. There are a couple of other Viking dealers that are good, but farther away (1 hour vs 1/2 hour or less to the Joanns). She recently transferred to this Viking Designer Gallery from another one in a different state so has worked for 10 years for the company. The price was $2000. Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated!!
